Do we really need more Backstreet Boys?

Backstreet_2As the Backstreet Boys prepare to release a new album, I can’t help but wonder what society did to deserve it. The album, Never Gone, is augmented by a tour and an avalanche of press. News sites have been featuring them often (the hell with what our president is doing), and the music media is awash with updates. They’ve chosen a Spinal Tap-esque strategy, starting with smaller club dates, much like every other band recovering from complete self-destruction. By self destruction, I mean the usual: “substance abuse ... infighting, management changes,” and the waning popularity of boy bands in general. (“Boy bands became as uncool as New Kids on the Block,” says AOL News, forgetting that NKOTB were themselves a boy band.) Evidently, Oprah is the one who got BSB back together. For an episode of her show that focused on A.J. McLean’s problems, “she coaxed the remaining Backstreet Boys to surprise him on air. After the emotional reunion, the group holed up in a hotel room and started talking about a comeback.” You’ll pay for this, Oprah.

David:

Have you listened to a song called, "Incomplete" yet?

Believe me, I could not name more than one guy's name in BSB, but LIFE seems to have happened to THESE boys. Only a grown man could write and sing (with passion)the lyrics to a song like this.

What can it hurt to add harmony and intensity to the music wasteland of today?

thats really nonsense
If you don't like them then why you know that much their songs. Anyway, Some persons of today think that because one band is called boyband then it sucks.

you know what?
BSB is the only "Boy band" that I like and the only "boy band" I admire. who cares if they are "uncool" or "Not punk" or "not of today" WHO CARES? there are persons that STILL love them, even if they are "uncool" or whatever you want to say.
Bye!

I don't think you can really judge Backstreet Boys the way you did. If I was a man (which I'm not, btw) I'd be way too scared to sing the songs they do.

All of them have incredible voices, and their songs (assuming you take the time to listen to the words, David) are really cute. They have passion, and the talent, and they use it.

Is that really that bad?
