Pepsi's Beckham surf ad wades into the Net

Pepsi2Pepsi has decided it’s safe—more or less—to go back in the water following the Asian tsunami that forced it to indefinitely postpone airing a commercial featuring David Beckham and other soccer stars surfing while simultaneously playing soccer (or appearing to, anyway). But the company is still wading back into showing the ad with the PR equivalent of a life vest. The commercial, directed by Tarsem, is airing exclusively at the company’s site www.thirstforfootball.com, which promotes youth soccer. It won’t be seen on the telly, but will be supported "by a hefty PR campaign" according to a story in The Guardian. (You’ll have to register if you want to read the story, but why bother? You got the skinny from us.)

that ad SUCKS!!!!!!!

leave the unrealistic, played out, special effects to georgie lucas.

once again another brand goes beyond its own product truth to be "cool." so from watching this, pepsi = a selfish, mean-spirited, fake group of oldies who won't let the poor little surfer kid get a pepsi.

DRINK MORE COKE ;-)

just fyi, the ad's been running on satellite TV in India (lost a mere 10,000 people in the tsunami, but hey, they were just Indians) for a few weeks now.

Actually as a surfer i thought the ad was well made and looked realistic, as realistic as possible and i scertainly 10 times better than the 'surfing' done by messers Reeves and Swayze in point break.

It has been out for ages, long before the Tsunami, and not sure why it wasnt shown before really, guess its all well out oif date now

Hey, there's is nothing like "they were just indians". How would you feel if you were there swept away by the tsunami?
