Catching up with Conchita the mule
Many people will be worked like a rented mule during Advertising Week. But what is life like if you are, actually, a rented mule? AdFreak caught up with Molly, an actress mule who frequently plays Conchita, the brand logo belonging to Juan Valdez of Premium Colombian Coffee fame. Molly/Conchita was at Madison Avenue and 50th Street today, allowing herself to be petted and cooed over by trade-magazine journalists. Molly’s handler, Bambi Brook of the Dawn Animal Agency (other clients include Nipper and Chipper, the RCA dogs) said that Molly would be on duty for only about 90 minutes before going home to Orange County, New York, where she eventually will retire onto a sanctuary. And it’s not real coffee in those bags, which otherwise would have weighed about 100 pounds, but fake lightweight filling. “She would be upset if this was real coffee,” Brook said. Conclusion: Being a rented mule is actually easier than it looks.
