Comcast channels ‘$20,000 Pyramid’

PyramidHere’s a fantastic, or rather Comcastic, commercial by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners for Comcast. (To play the video, click on this link, then on the image—the site has been running slowly, though.) The footage is from an actual episode of The $20,000 Pyramid (the one that aired on June 21, 1978, according to one intrepid Internet sleuth) but with new voices added and the clues changed to list the benefits of Comcast cable services. Victory is sweet, even when it’s overdubbed.

This is the best commercial since "I'm a Pepper, your a Pepper" for Dr. Pepper!
It will be remembered forever. And thanks to Dick Clark Productions for releasing it. How sweet it is, pure genius. And all done on Stage 33 at CBS Television City, home of Sonny and Cher and the Price is Right. Whoo woo, it's Lorreta Swit and some guy with some crazy pants.

Actually, the $20,000 Pyramid was shot at ABC in New York.

Dave Ramos,

I am sorry for that gaff, I guess earlier episodes were shot in Hollywood or New York and then later episode eventually made it to Stage 33. My research shows this:

The $10.000 was on CBS from March 26, 1973 to March 29, 1974. Then on ABC from May 6, 1974 to January 16, 1976. 1808 programs.
The $20.000 version was on ABC from January 19, 1976 to June 27, 1980. The $25.000 version was syndicated with Bill Cullen and was on from 1974 to 1977. I have been able to find data on the 1980 forward. And of course Donny Osmand's version. But I believe in the 80's Dick Clark did do the $100.000 Pyramid on Stage 33. Help me fill in the blanks if you can. The video quality of the Comcastic spot assures me that you are correct. CBS Television City always had better taping equipment and better cameras, where as the Comcast spot shows the lack of video burn on 2 inch tape.
Thanks,
Dave Sharp

I heard there's a 60-second version of the spot that shows Dick Clark saying "Here's your first subject. GO!" and all six categories, instead of the one that is skipped in the 30-second spot. Anyone know where that is?

I am amazed that nobody has pointed out the trickery in this highly deceptive commercial. The 4th clue is skipped over entirely with no time whatsoever devoted to it. Otherwise, it is a clver commercial.

For the record, that clip from that "$20,000 Pyramid" episode was videotaped in New York City at ABC's Studio TV-15 (now the site of St. Thomas' Choir School) on West 58th Street in Manhattan. The "Pyramid" shows were produced at that former converted theater [the "Elysee"], which was once home to "The Dick Cavett Show", from June 1974 to April 1981 through the various format versions aired on network and syndicated television.
