Man or Machinima?

Machinima1A new Sims 2 campaign, which broke on Tuesday, features machinima in ads. This burgeoning field, recently written about in The New York Times Magazine, exists because game players are taking footage of themselves playing videogames and using software to edit it into narratives that have nothing to do with the game. It has, for the most part, been used to create short films and "sitcoms" that air on Web sites, but we think there's plenty of advertising applications too. So become a fan or addict now, before the 2005 Machinima Festival, Nov. 12 at the Museum of the Moving Image, generates waves of publicity about the latest subculture. If you have links to your favorite machinima, or machinima you've been doing, send'em along.
