Check out this Coca-Cola spec creative!
Coca-Cola We open on what appears to be the red planet (Mars). We see an astronaut in a spacesuit walking in a white crater. As the camera moves in, we see the oxygen tanks the astronaut is wearing are actually filled with a fizzy liquid. The mouthpiece in his helmet is actually a straw. The camera reveals that the guy inside the astronaut suit is drinking the fizzy liquid, via the mouthpiece, as he explores the red planet. The camera pulls away revealing that the red planet is actually a can of Coca-Cola in deep space. The astronaut has been ‘exploring’ and walking on the Coca-Cola can. The white crater the astronaut has been exploring is the white swirl on the Coca-Cola can. Title card: The Original Red Planet. Logo: Coca-Cola VO/Tag: “Red Means Go.” Tell us what you think. —Posted by Catharine P. Taylor |

Thats hilarious, whoever faked my name and website for that last post. I sure trust YOUR judgement.
DDB is NOW part of a US agency, but it was formerly BMP, producing fantastic work in the 70s-90s.
AMV is the same I believe.
and W+K London is part of the US company, yes.
But its not like its full of Americans working there now is it. They are almost all British creatives and account staff.
And yes I am qualified in the sense that ive been watching and analysing adverts for about 15 years.
If you dont see anything intelligent in me stating my opinion and reasons behind it then you really shouldnt be posting on blogs... it wont be good for you.
I think its an iffy ad, and especially so for the Coca Cola brand. You can think what you like, dont have a go at me or my country just because you dont agree with it.

this spec scrip is garbage. i'm a CW at one of the best agencies in the country, i've produced lots of tv, all better than this script. and, as we all know, clients can be reluctant, for the 15 or so ads i've produced this year, i've got hundreds of even better scripts. why is this making the rounds? it's lame. i'm not asking for a flame or anything, i've won awards, i've done some good stuff, some not so good stuff. this is plain blech. i wouldn't even put it to paper. the idea isn't that great, and it doesn't mean anything. lame.

Catharine p. taylor, is tom muller your boyfriend?
Posted by: alex b | Jan 2, 2006 2:37:53 PM
Chris - Wow. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the New Year. Either you're jealous or a hack. Could be you're jealous hack.
P.S. I like the idea. It's smart. Positioning Coke as 'The Original Red Planet' fits this idea. Plus, the tag, "Red Means Go" is brilliant.

I see Tom is still pushing his bad ads on anyone who will listen. It's sad. I feel sorry for the guy.

Nice stuff. I'm jealous.
Posted by: ECD | Jan 3, 2006 11:40:03 AM
John B. - I wouldn't feel too sorry for Tom. Have you seen his website?
Posted by: bbh creative slave | Jan 3, 2006 2:08:22 PM
I cant believe for one minute that anybody would expect Coke to even consider buying this.
Posted by: Rob Mortimer | Jan 3, 2006 3:05:02 PM
bbh creative slave - Well, I know Tom. He used to work for me until he called me a hack. And by the way, have you seen my book?

This idea is better than anything Coke's done. Not that I would switch to drinking Coke but at least I would like their ads.

The New Coke spots are better than the 'Reality Campaign' that Berlin did but they still aren't great. Why won't Coke do something like this Planet Red spot? It's an iconic idea.

I really like this Coke spot. Love the line: Red Means Go.
Posted by: ad fan | Apr 28, 2006 11:48:36 AM
I'll drink to that.
Posted by: Ben Franklin | May 15, 2006 12:26:43 PM
I think this spot is perfect for Coke, since both the ad and the product are full of shit.
"I'd like to teach the world to become obese and have toothache"
Coke is the MacDonalds of soft drinks.

I wish somebody would think of an ad like this for me. I'm so sick of that stupid "Be a Pepper" jingle.
Posted by: Dr. Pepper | Nov 2, 2006 8:13:28 AM
I'll drink to that!

I love this idea! Does anyone know if it got produced????

Okay, we're green now.

A Super Bowl ad better then that 'happy peeple' video game ad Coke did.
Posted by: InSink | Feb 17, 2007 1:31:51 PM
I drink Pepsi when I work on roofs. I drink Dr. Pepper when I work on ads. I never drink Coke.

Did this run?

Interesting spot. It's better than what Coca-Cola is doing now.

Great

A product like Coke needs all the cool advertising it can get. Especially, because it has all the fructose corn syrup it can get.

I'll drink to that! I'll drink to anything now that the Chargers beat the Colts!!!!!!!

I like wallpaper made of milkshakes.

My .02 cents. The Coke "Parade" spot that aired during the Patriots vs. Giants Super Bowl XVIL was a good spot. Maybe even great. Having just read this Coca-Cola spot "Planet Red" I think this is the real Super Bowl winner. Too bad it's just spec.
Posted by: G-Men | Feb 6, 2008 3:03:48 PM
I'll drink to that, mate.
Posted by: Thirsty Brit | Feb 19, 2008 9:14:28 PM
I wish all coke spots tasted as good as this spec spot
