Howard Stern self-promo effort in full swing

Howard2a_1The hype surrounding Howard Stern’s Jan. 9 move to Sirius Satellite Radio is reaching a fever pitch. Last week, Billboard Radio Monitor reported that Stern is planning to lure listeners over to Sirius with a cliffhanger on one of his final terrestrial radio shows. (He’s expected to make personal revelations Howard1a_1on-air about himself and his cast members, and then reveal which secret goes with which person on the Sirius show.) And just now, these two newspaper ads appeared in our inbox. They’re not exactly groundbreaking, but they get the point across.

These are pretty weak, why even given them a mention. Does anyone else think that Stern is going to flop on satellite? I do.

I think he is definitely going to flop. Not his fault. Who'd be stupid enough to pay 13 bucks a month for radio?

Who'd be stupid enough to continue listening to FM Radio?

They don't pay someone 1/2 BILLION dollars if they are going to flop. Wake the "F" UP!

The satellite radio industry already has over 9 million subscribers. And it will only continue to grow as people buy new cars with the receivers preinstalled and a year's worth of free service. I have yet to meet anyone who had it (Sirius or XM) and didn't like it. And with TV, internet and now satellite radio taking away viewers (plus FCC fines), traditional stations will have a harder time making the advertising revenue to cover their budgets - which means more ads and less talent, which will drive more people to satellite. In the end, it will be like television is today, a handful of successful stations and several hundred satellite stations.

Hey, Inyoface,

He's flopping!

OOPS... I meant sternfan.

He's probably not buying $irius either. Most of Stern's audience couldn't afford it anyway.

Satellite Radio? Most people will never buy it. Especially with digital FREE radio just around the corner. I won't even get into the other satellite radio killer, iPod in your car.
