Six Flags’ Mr. Six to get deep-sixed

Mrsix_2Mr. Six memorabilia flies off the shelves. The look-alike contests draw hundreds. He has his own roller coaster, Mr. Six’s Pandemonium. All in all, Mr. Six has been a huge, if annoying, success. Despite this, Dan Snyder, who took control of Six Flags amusement parks along with two partners yesterday, plans to force the old spokesgeezer into retirement, the New York Post reports. Apparently, Snyder and his team want to shift the primary marketing focus from thrill-seeking teenagers to mothers with young children. Mr. Six did like to party, but the party’s over.

Good. I hate those commercials. I especially hated the midi sounding music on the soundtrack.

first time i saw this commercial i tought "wtf??? must be from the same twits that have handled domino's pizza horrendous spots"

unfreakingbelievably bad.

Worst news since the firing of Mr. Wendy's.

A strange marketing move, being that Mr. Six was so successful. And I love the Venga Boys tune 'We Like to Party.'

Clearly there is no God.

I know the guy who plays Mr. Six. He's 27 years old and a millionaire due to all the national plays of the commercials so I'm not so sad for him. The whole Mr. Six-dancing is so damn creepy. Put the old geezer on ice, PERMANENTLY!

"mothers with young children"?

Aren't most of the rides at Six Flags slapped with requirments like height, age, and no heart conditions?

Why would you want to get mothers with 'young children' who can't go on the rides?

The kiddie section would hold their attention for about an hour.

I agree with Jr. Planner. Mothers with young kids? Yeah, you betcha. That is marketing genius! Maybe families with older kids would be a good tie in. I took my teens to Six Flags and we rode on the many thrill seeking rides! Taking a toddler, no way, just torture me instead!

And who knew Dominic Chianese (Jr. Saprano) could dance so well?

Listen up: IT WASN'T SUCCESSFUL! Tim Nudd got it wrong. Parade magazine reported that despite spending 72 million, the ad campaign completely FLOPPED: No increase in revenue and NO increase in attendance. And that's WHY they're dropping it.

Posted by: John | Feb 17, 2006 9:48:39 AM

Probably it got dropped because the 6 Pennants ppl realized this ad was
Weird
Dumb
Creepy

But you never know...

Posted by: Dahoz | Feb 23, 2006 12:01:22 PM

how can the ads be unsuccessful if 4 notes into the song or one look at Mr Six and your already thinking of Six Flags Great Adventure...

anyone who does not think mr six is one of the coolest spokespeople ever is definitly and idiot...idiots

Myself working in marketing, I credited this campaign as brilliant! EVERYONE knows the commercials and talks about them. That is the goal of marketing. I will miss it all.

Funny, I was just AT Six Flags/Atlanta today, and they were still selling those commerative Mr. Six beverage containers with his likeness on top. Seems like they couldn't keep them in stock! The vendors were having a tough time selling the other ones!

Is there a commercial out there on the Internet with Mr. Six on it still?

Sir, I am also in marketing. And you are DEAD WRONG. The goal of marketing (in this case) is to get people to buy something -- NOT talk about buying something.

As Dave (Dec 2005) pointed out:

The facts speak the truth.

Ack. The first time I saw this commercial...I thought "who's the perv in the suit?". Thankfully I was recently watching an episode of "The Office" and Jim facetiously mentioned to another character that Pam LOVED Mr. Six and if he wanted to impress her to go ahead and mention Mr. Six. Need I say more? Nice to know the witty writers of The Office also think Mr. Six was/is a full fledged creepo nightmare.

All good things must come to an end,
so is Mr. Six,The character of Six flags
theme park.I like his fast feet, telling
everyone to come to Six Flags and forget
your troubles and have some fun.
He will be missed.Put away at the mascot's
cemetary.

Kill Them All, Let God sort them out.

I work at a Six Flags theme park, and at the end of the '05 season, the Asst. Manager of our department said it was the second most successful season for our park since it became a Six Flags park! That definately had to be largely due to the Mr. Six ads. Creepy? Maybe to some, but his ads were far more attention getting than current ads for the company. You will be missed Mr. Six!
