Canadians choose hippos over broadband

That’s an interesting way of getting the word out about your Telus. It’s a tangible reminder of the brand whenever one is in contact with the toy animal. The stuffed animal creates a positive response in whoever has it and that positive response will also be associated with Telus as a result. And I’m assuming with the stuffed animal is a bunch of info about the broadband services for the purchaser to mull over. And as far as children go, much like McDonalds, Telus is creating some potential life long customers via nostalgic value and emotional connection to the brand.

Good points but the advertising vendor is NOT selling the hippo's, it's an unexpected spinoff creating a hippo toy demand that seems to step fully away from their own product. I agree if they had the hippo toy product it'd all tie together.

i love the hippo song, the commercal seems to have drawn more young kids then adults looking for telus broadband, the song is very memerable and gets stuck in your head, not for the telus but for the cute face of the hippo and the catchy jingle to go along.
i sing it all the time and it seems most peole are on the same lines as me

Here's the Commercial. Wish I could download it. : http://promo.telus.com/tm/05/q4/highspeed_tv/
And here's the full song with lyrics:

First of all, the hippo that's used in the commercial is from a zoo in Vancouver and she's not being treated well there at all. Telus should not be exploiting animals for commercials - there is so much technology out there now, they don't need to use real animals to make a buck. They allegedly paid $10,000 to use Hazina, the baby hippo...and what does she get? A small shack to live in and a wading pool not big enough for her to swim in. She's not allowed to outside to roam either, by the way. I could care less about stuffed hippos, and the song...Hazina's well-being (and the other animals Telus uses) should come first.

And that's why Telus stipulated that her living conditions be improved as a condition of them "renting" her.

Telus' campaign to improve the living conditions of the hippos in the Vancouver and Calgary zoos:

The hippo is so so cute. Wish I could have a mini hippo like people have miniature ponies. I think that the hippo promotion was "partly" to help the zoo by appealing to children. The main goal was to have adults buy TELUS products. But even my 60+ father was wondering around during the holidays professing he "want[s] a hippopotamus for Christmas" I got him power tools instead but you get the idea.

It's not just children and adults that love this commercial. My cat perks up every time it comes on, and pats at the screen at the hippo. She doesn't do this with anything else on t.v. Perhaps telus could do another campaign of various people singing the song. That could be fun too.
