Santa battling Narnia snow globes
The snow-globe craze continues. Anticipating the release this Friday of the Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Baltimore-based Becker Group, an experiential marketing agency, set up giant snow globes at malls into which shoppers can enter and see magically projected movie clips and animatronic figures. Among the 11 participating Taubman Centers malls are the Beverly Center in Los Angeles, The Mall at Short Hills (N.J.), the Cherry Creek mall in Denver and the Dolphin Mall in Miami (where Narniaheads might especially enjoy the simulated snowfall in the walk-in closet, i.e., walk-through wardrobe). The project came out the office of Oren Aviv, president of Buena Vista Pictures marketing. Through an additional partnership with Kodak, participants enter a contest for prizes and get a green-screen-enabled photo op. How can a mere rent-a-Santa compete?
