Hi,
I just visited milliondollarhomepage and was really surprised by its look and feel. A site filled with ads!! Boy....now that's an idea. Great work. I really can't believe someone could have come up with such an idea.

I will have to admit that when I read about Alex Tew's website on December 30th, I was just a bit jealous! What a great idea and I wish that I had thought of it.
As I researched I was very surprised to see how many sites have started up since August when Alex started the MillionDollarHomepage.
I have been in eBusiness for over 9 years now and have introduced multiple online businesses. I had always thought that one of these would be that exponential grower much like Alex Tew's, but to no avail.
I am taking a little different approach by introducing http://www.ebizproject.com. The website site is aimed at proving that eBusiness and online advertising will play a significant role for all companies in 2006 and on into the future. It will also provide all those who advertise a little piece of Internet history!
My passion is eBusiness, but I need a little validation!

A genius indeed! I sold a million pixels, but all I got was a lousy penny per pixel. But hey... 10K isn't bad. :)

Alex did sell the last 1,000 pixels on ebay. It appears that the final bid was only $38,100.00, not bad.
But, what about the 500 pixels reserved for Alex Tew on the site (lower right quadrant)? Are those going to be auctioned off on ebay again? Or is there an oncore?
Posted by: guest | Jan 12, 2006 8:55:33 AM
Ok, here's the next big thing: internet as art. Alex's page has a really artsy look to it. I could see it been blown up a bit and framed.
Anyway, I joined the crowd - and what a crowd it is - with www.pixels4sagominers.com For those living outside the states we had a mining accident in West Virginia and I'm trying to raise money to help the families by selling pixels.
P.S. Yes, I'm taking a chunk for myself.

We're selling pixels at 1 penny per pixel over at ...
http://www.millionpennywebpage.com
Frankly, the $1M has been done, and there isn't room for another big earner like that. On a level down from there, cheap advertising is the key for many, and there are still buyers in that sector.
As far as pixels go, we give unique multiple links 'cos the ads can be much bigger. The customers who are still around want more for their cash, so we make sure they get it.
There are a small number of good quality copycat sites around, but all the other script based sites are never gonna do it, they're not flexible enough for making changes. The only thing that still amazes me is the shear level of name permutations for all these sites!

Kudos to Alex Tew. He came in with $35K from eBay and created a whole host of followers. Like the pet rock, there is only one. However, we have taken Alex's idea and created a more "advertiser" friendly site, designed to provide a better user experience and an SEO link for the advertiser, at Vertical Ads http://www.verticalads.com.
again - great job Alex. It's great to see an entrepenuer win. Now we are making the platform more legit. Vertical Ads; a new way to Pixel.

News from www.millionairepixels.co.uk
‘a Devon business with global ambition’
Date: Monday 16 January 2006
Australia asks Devon Designer for Help
Devon internet businessman and web designer Alan Wheeler has launched an innovative web advertising service which has already attracted an international company to sign up.
Bovey Tracey based Mr Wheeler has also been asked by Australian charity ‘Hope for Children’ to help them design and set up a similar web-based advertising service.
His web-service www.millionairepixels.co.uk enables businesses to buy a square of pixels, on the web page. Customers click on the coloured pixels and are immediately transported to the advertiser’s web site.
With each block of 100 pixels costing just £60 (60p per unit) it is, believes Mr Wheeler, one of the best value advertising and promotion options for businesses of all sizes and a potentially valuable boost to tourism related services.
And, in the longer term, advertisers could end up bidding for space on what is being described as internet ‘real estate’.
Mr Wheeler, aged 42, said “It’s a quick and easy way for people to find a service or firm and it also gives competitive advantage to the businesses because, with the millions of web sites available, this will draw potential customers to them much more easily.”
“Without a doubt there are people globally willing to pay for quite gimmicky advertising solutions. The internet is a fast moving place with over eight million web pages added on a daily basis. For a website to stand out and generate sales it needs to stand out from the rest,” he added
Last autumn university student Alex Tew set up the Million Dollar site and since then has been overwhelmed by the success of a venture intended to raise enough money to pay for his way through university.
Alan Wheeler’s www.millionairepixels.co.uk is, he says, the next big step in the concept because, in effect, businesses are ‘leasing’ virtual real estate on the web to promote their businesses.
Launched just two weeks ago, www.millionairepixels.co.uk has already won the backing of international business Optis Europe Ltd, an operations management company, which is using the site to promote its business.
With more customers advertising it is, says Mr Wheeler, inevitable that like real property, some of the pixels on his site will become increasingly valuable for their ‘owners’ as more business is generated.
However, the last 1200 pixels, or advertising blocks, will eventually be auctioned off in support of the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, said Mr Wheeler.
Ends…

Well, he's already filled his site, and is waiting on ads to come in from the final stragglers who have reserved space. It's been said a million times, but the original idea was amazingly simple. I don't know if the imitator sites will make as much mony as Alex did... probably not. I tried to put a unique and honest spin on the pixel ad concept with http://www,buckabyte.com
I know it will ever get to the levels of Alex's site... but it's been pretty cool so far!

Well done Alex!
We'd like to mention companybattleships.com. Ads are ships that periodically compete in a sea battle. There's a live, random, real-time battle at the site. How did they program it without Flash?

1 City costs USD100 only?
Web Advertisement in New Way
There’s another new advertisement platform set up after Milliondollarhomepage.
The website called “Globe-Ad.com” now is promoting Map Ads, that’s you can put your ads on the cities in the map. Each city for ads costs USD100.
Our reporter had an interview with the web chief and asked how they came up with the idea to put ads on the map. “If the grip is ok for sale, then why not the map? Our cities on the map will also create value. The truth is that the density of cities on the map is less than the grip, so the ads are more obvious for people to click, and our map includes most countries in the world, it’s no doubt that our map ads, if not better than, is same eye-catching as the grip ads.
Again our reporter asked one of the chief Jackson about the difference between the map and grip.
J(Jackson): We focus on uniqueness and pointedness. Only one ad is allowed on one city. The whole web is classified by countries, and every country has M cities. If you purchase one city, you can put on your ads on this city. Because of the uniqueness, map ads are more effective than the grip. Also the map consists of all the countries in the world, leading to the visitor classification.
Ads owner usually chooses the city where their companies is located, so that it’s easier to advertise because most visitors are opt to browse first their country, living city with other counties and places they interested in as second.
R(Reporter): The grip website has its limit, that’s their business will stop one the the grips sold out. So what about your map ads? You know, cities are also countable.
J(Jackson): Our maps show the big and famous cities mostly, but we can add more cities with our customers’ requirement. Also we have time limit of 1 year for the ads service by every purchase. After the period, the ads owner can transfer the city or purchase again with priority. We may include more maps in order to increase the popularity and profit. And please know that our services are not limited in map, we can make use of the map to extent more business.
The Milliondollarhomepage shocks the world with its creative grip ads. So in the same way, Map Ads is supposed to be the extent of the grip economy. They don’t rely on the portals with much information, but a tradition-breaking creative idea. The trend of future internet is leaded individuals, not traditional portals. As a result, the “Grip Economy”, “Map Economy” is somehow a breaking way leading Web 2.0 into practical and commercial use.
