Google celebrates Braille’s birthday

Googlebraille1Google renders its logo in braille to honor Louis Braille, who would have been 197 years old today. Google Blogoscoped calls this “one of the more brave logos,” as the Google name is no longer readable for most visitors (though we doubt anyone’s really that confused). Clicking the logo initiates a search for the phrase “louis braille birthdate,” and the first link goes to Wikipedia. A search for “louis braille,” meanwhile, would have put the American Foundation for the Blind at the top of the search listings.

I love this. I think its a brave statement to make, not only does it remind people of his work; it actually gives you a brief moment of feeling the same sense of being lost that blind people suffer with all the time.

if the four blue dots are G, what's that first blue period before the first G? Does all braille start with that?
