Find VW’s ‘Fast’ on eBay

14_cr_news_vwThe quirky new icon created by Crispin Porter + Bogusky for the Volkswagen GTI campaign is already popping up on eBay. The ads debuted only last weekend, but as of this afternoon (Friday), at least two people are offering the icon on the auction site. (Both of these auctions are set to expire by Saturday.) The first of the icons hit the site with a $50 starting price and has received 21 bids, pushing it to $318. The second (also posted at $50) has 10 bids and reached a price of $157.50. The only other way to get one of the characters is to buy a new VW. But with eBay bidders this motivated, car dealers may consider advertising it as a cash-back bonus.

Hmmm... the copy on one of those ads seems suspiciously well written, and the other one seems suspiciously a giant lie, since CP+B came up with "fast" not some Turkish designer. Gee, I wonder how the bid price is getting so high?

I'm with hmmm

Wexley school for girls 4 life bitches.

Maybe its time we stopped being down on CPB for everything.

What about the Wexley School for Fake Ads that Never Ran?

Yeah, people are always beating up on poor, defenseless Crispin. Cry me a river.

I don't think anyone disputes that Crispin is pretty much the hottest agency around at the moment. But much of the press -- yes, including our own beloved "Adweek" and "Adfreak" -- goes overboard in singing their praises. They give ass-kissing a bad name. A few critical comments posted on a blog or two helps provide a little balance and perspective -- a much-needed corrective to all the hype and hot air.

Although I gotta agree with you about the Wexley School for Fake Ads. . .

Whoa there. I'm not trying to rip on Crispin at all. It's a cool place and I've got a lotta love for them. I'm just pointing out that the ebay things are fake and that we shouldn't be shocked that the price is high. And what's with hating on Wexley? That place rocks!!! I mean have you seen their website? fake or not, that website is hottttttttt.

For speed go to Portland. You can get high as a kite. Are you looking at me?

I could really care less about all of this crap . I simply just wanted to buy the fast figure at a fair price. So put them in auto shops every and get on with life.

Wexley School for fake ads. Funny. Which ones were fake, the ESPN Fantasy Football stuff, the MADD stuff that got picked up by the national chapter or the world-record Washington Mutual bus wrap? It's easy to fake a bus. Not a thing you've ever seen is fake. Don't hate the player, hate the game! Especially when you're losing.
Long live Crispin, they rock.
