Britney Spears: From pole-dancing to pro-life monument In the pantheon of celebrity motherhood, Britney Spears may the most overexposed. And she just became more so, thanks to Daniel Edwards, who has cast a life-sized statue of Britney—nude, pregnant and downward-doggie over a bearskin rug—as a pro-life monument. According to the artist, the reason why Brit was one of Google’s most searched for images is because “people are inspired by the beauty of a pregnant woman.” Maybe Edwards was blinded by his pro-life sentiments—the Manhattan Right to Life Committee donated dedication materials to the Brooklyn gallery showing the work—but one has only to page through a back issue of US Weekly or Star to know that pregnant Brit was just not pretty. Nor does post-partum Brit appear to be ideal. (After all, she was spotted driving her SUV with her infant on her lap. Not the kind of baby-dangling shenanigans Michael Jackson made famous, but still a safety no-no.) Then again, this press release says Edwards wasn’t using tabloid photos as his inspiration. Instead, he frequented Las Vegas’ Madame Tussauds’ in order to gawk at their likeness of a pole-dancing Britney. Truly a muse to inspire a monument to young motherhood. —Posted by Deanna Zammit
