Comcast tortoises deal with sudden fame

Slowskys1Watched a lot of March Madness over the weekend, and kept seeing the ads for Comcast high-speed Internet featuring the Slowskys, the husband-and-wife tortoise couple who prefer plodding DSL service to the lightning-fast Comcast cable. If you’re into tortoises, you’ll enjoy these ads, which show the couple, Bill and Karolyn, in deadpan domestic-scene testimonials, saying how great DSL is because it’s so slow and why you shouldn’t switch to Comcast. The ads are up on the Web site, which has lots of other comical elements, including Karolyn’s blog (she’s always more than a few days behind with the news), a photo gallery (which challenges you to Photoshop Bill in various exotic locales), a line of belated greeting e-cards and something called the Slowsky Awards. Movies and a chess game are coming soon. Also, if you want to chat with the couple, their AIM handle is theslowskys.

Huh. Yeah, enjoy the AIM chat. Typing in "How can I sign up for Comcast?" results in the response "You're going to have to figure that one out for yourself." Which, not surprisingly, is the response I typically received from their customer support--the biggest reason why I switched to RCN here in Philly.

More fun with other questions:
Q: "Why should I switch to Comcast?"
A: "The explanation is rather complicated."

Q: "I think I'd like to close my Comcast account."
A: "Nice."

Q: "Why is Comcast's customer support so awful?"
A: "Why do I exist?"

Why, indeed.

DSL is not slower than cable.

Stupid spot.

On average DSL is slower than cable, at least where I live, in Dallas, Tx. DSL in some neighborhoods is 192 kbps downstream. That's pretty slow. If you're close enough to the CO or the remote terminal, it's as fast as cable.

This comcast ad is so stupid I mute the volume everytime it airs. It's in the same league as the ridiculous talking gecko of Geico infamy.
"If you’re into tortoises" - how noncomittal is that? I hope your feet don't hurt walking on eggshells like that. It's a stupid ad and you've written a stupid non-review. You sound like you work for comcast or something. The ad disgusts me and your pussy-ass review disgusts me.

The Slowskys are adorable; great ad, right up there with the USPS ad "I'm gonna mail myself to you!"

My 5 year old son and I love the Slowsky ads. I hope Comcast keeps cranking them out.
