Klansman ads promote Brazil radio station

KlanQuite an unbelievable ad here, created by TBWA in São Paulo, Brazil, for a local radio station’s Jazzmasters program. The headline reads, “We play only black music.” Thus the Klansman’s pose—he just can’t stand listening to the stuff. Another ad in the series shows the Klan dude taking a cigarette lighter to a transistor radio. Using the Ku Klux Klan as a punch line seems oh maybe just a little tasteless. Link via Creative Brain.

Fucking brilliant! It's about time those brain dead bigots are scorned in advertising, without the misguided fear of 'appearing' to support their cause simply by using them to make a point!

It's just a shame that no American advertiser would be so brave...

Latin American agencies seem to think of the Klan in a cartoonish way, which is somewhat understandable since they have no direct experience with this group, and to be sure, those white costumes are ridiculous. But to people in the U.S., who must live with the legacy and consequences of once having had a slave trade, the Klan is not to be treated lightly; as some kind of cartoon characters. Their "humorous" use in advertisements is not merely insulting but dangerous.

I have to agree with Tim and concerned on this one... the kkk thrive on attention and this is giving it to them

would it be "brave" with characters from the nazi regime or any other genocidal groups from history?

this is not funny and this is not being "brave"... this is crude sensationalism at another cultures expense

But let's not forget that the ad is exposing the clan as the foolish, ignorant imbeciles that they are!

That is, people who'd rather close their eyes and ears to artistic expression.

I don't see how this is any different than the way Spielberg treated Nazis in the 3rd Indiana Jones movies, in terms of sheer tonality.

Bigots, racists, and hatemongers deserve all the scorn and mocking the world can give them...and, quite frankly, it's nice to an ad of all things serve it up.

How come Americans don't get to trivialize the culture of other countries, (say in a cartoon of Mohammed), but Japanese get to use racist images in HBA packaging, to cite but one example? Because we're a bigger target? It's about time we started flexing our muscles as well. When Latin American and other agencies choose to be cultually insensitive, we should call them on it. They will push the envelope as long as possible.

Actually, Latin American agencies may seem to think of Blacks in a cartoonish way.
