What side effects doesn’t Ambien cause?

AmbienWe used to think the rare and troubling four-hour erection was about as weird as it got in the world of prescription-drug side effects. But then came Ambien, the sleeping pill that has been found (in rare cases) to cause people to drive without realizing it and/or “unlock a primitive desire to eat,” according to The New York Times. As with the sleeping drivers, patients who have this Ambien related-eating disorder apparently don’t remember anything about their nighttime snacks—they are usually tipped off by the candy wrappers all over the house or the crumbs in the bed. (Presumably, if they drive and eat in their sleep, there are fast-food wrappers littering the minivan.) Perhaps the Ambien disclaimer should be tweaked: “Side effects may include downing four pints of Häagen-Dazs, a party-size bag of Doritos and two rolls of raw cookie dough between the hours of 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. If you believe you are at risk for driving unbeknownst to you while under the influence of Ambien, have your significant other hide your car keys before taking Ambien. If you do not have a significant other to hide your car keys, sell your car.” We’re just here to help.

I heard about Ambien on the news and my jaw hit the floor.

I woud sleepwalk for hours and eat anything anywhere. I immediatly told my dr that I rather go with out. Crazy thing is I couldn't stay awake in the day. I told my wife one morning how tired I was, she said "no wonder, you walked up and down the stairs all night."

And I would eat very little in the day and couldn't figure out why I was GAINING weight. Crumbs everywhere. I really didn't equate it with the Amien but was during the same time I was sleepwalkig. I never thought a "sleep-aid" would make me tired during the day and fatter at night.

A scrtch off lottery ticket cangive you 20-25% chance of winning. I can't win at that but I had side effects that happen less then 0.001 of the time.

I have been using ambien for my sleeping disorders for more than two years and never experience any of those “unusual” side effects, before I was using more aggressive pills like benzodiazepine and I was feeling like shit in the morning and experience dizziness all day long but it was that or no sleep at all.I believe that poor an has a more serious problem, it is well known as munchies may be it doesn't only use ambien,he should take conseling

I have personaly experiened the twilight muchies while taking Ambien. The scary part is that I chose to cook while in what I call an ambien trance. During this trance state you are completly moble and may attempt to perform any task. Where this gets strange is the next day when you can't figure out if what you remember is real or a dream. I have produced some interesting drawings while in the ambien trance. What made some of them interesting was where they were, one of a psychodelic fish on my hardwood floor. One of a thousand tiny stick men on the trunk lid of my brand new Mutstang. And another in the form of some nosensical words written on my wifes cat using a sharpie. My wife has experience some sleepwalking episodes on the drug as well. Interesting this about her sleep walking is that her mood turns very negative. I would equate it with a mean drunk.

I was given Ambien to help my insomia as well. After the 2nd night of taking the medication, the weirdness began. I haven't taken off on an eating binge but I have had some very stange hallucinations. Just last night, my husband said that I walked down the stairs to ask him if it was windy outside b/c the house was swaying. I also thought the carpet was "crawling" away. It also gives me an insatiable sexual appetite during the first 45 minutes after taking it. Of course my husband has no problem with that...lol. The scary part is not remembering things the next day. As a mother of two, that isn't something that I am willing to risk with my kids. I'm calling the doc in the morning...To quote Hewey Lewis..."I want a new drug"...=)

I have been on abmien for about 8 months and have experienced severe memory problems. I have a hard time organizing my thoughts, or remembering an incident. If someone begins to speak about it I would then recall it but couldn't seem to pull up the info on my own. I also found I couldn't write as fluently - I was spelling out each letter trying to write a sentence. If I received a late night phone call about my aging mother from her assisted living facility I would not always remember the entire conversation. It would come back in bits and pieces. I have been off the ambien for 4 days now and already feel the difference. I don't feel as though I am pulling things from my memory and don't worry constantly that I am not remembering what I am supposed to be doing next. I have a sister that had a driving episode while on Ambien. She had no recollection of driving, hit a curb and threw up all over herself. If she takes the pill before actually getting into bed she does not remember conversations and has walked into walls. She also has a friend that drove while on ambien and was in a serious accident that literally scalped him. He is recovering but had no memory of getting into the car to drive. That's all I need to tell me that I will have to deal with any sleep problems. At least I know I am not making any decisions while in am Ambien trance.
