Gaming ... the next major sport?

Majorleaguegamingfinal_2 I suppose this is all inevitable, but gaming is taking on many aspects of more established professional sports. I came across two sponsporship stories this morning—one touting Scion’s sponsorship of Major League Gaming (note the Major League Baseball-like logo), and another talking about Microsoft’s sponsorship through 2008 of the World Cyber Games. In the Scion release, an MLG exec says, “ … we’re looking forward to building what we believe will ultimately become the next major league sport in America.” I’m not ready to believe the hype, frankly, especially if there’s some plan afoot to turn this into a spectator sport. It’s one thing to watch a steroid-enhanced Barry Bonds hit a grand slam, another to watch someone’s thumbs twitch while he or she plays on an XBox.

Yes I think Pro Gaming is finally going to get the respectt that it deserves. A lot of the press doesn't even want to talk to any of the pro gamers. But I think that is all about to change in a big way.

Hasn't this already been going on for years now in other countries?

I think its about time people realize that Gaming is a sport and other people are starting to to get jealous because were starting to take over.
