McDonald’s breakfasts inspire short fiction
I’ll admit, I enjoy the odd Sausage McMuffin with Egg sandwich now and then. Some people’s love for McDonald’s breakfast is just out of whack, though—it’s so intense that they find themselves sitting down and working out their feelings through fiction. That’s right, it’s time for mcgriddlefanfic, a LiveJournal community dedicated to short fiction about McDonald’s breakfasts. There are already 18 stories up, and check out some of the great opening lines: “Sharon Valerii, tucking her McGriddle snugly back into its wrapper, headed across the colony in New Caprica towards the Chief’s house.” “The sky was the color of a fry-o-later filled with burned grease.” “Delicious tension filled the air.” “The bacon McGriddle woke up and glanced at his alarm clock.” “Lying in his cell, doing a ‘dollar value menu’ upstate, The Hamburgler reflected on his past life.” That last one is about lunch, but still, this stuff is genius. There’s also one haiku (“McGriddle so yum/You go straight to my big bum/Sweet and savory”) and one joke (“Q: What do you get when you line up 8 McGriddle breakfast sandwiches in a row? A: MMMMMMMM!”). The site’s only been up a few days; there are surely more great things to come, including possibly, eventually, the great American novel starring the Quarter Pounder. Via Boing Boing.
