‘National Geographic’ promotes Chernobyl issue with three-headed Russian doll
Kodak’s dual-cyclops dog suddenly has a new best friend: National Geographic’s three-headed Russian doll. Whereas the dog wasn’t really intended to look nightmarish and post-apocalyptic, this doll most certainly is—it advertises a new report on Chernobyl in the Portuguese edition of National Geographic. (Foote Cone & Belding in Lisbon did the campaign.) The last ad I remember that explicitly referenced nuclear meltdown was a piece Michael Dweck did years ago for Long Island’s Oak Tree Farm Dairy. It attemped to scare people off Pennsylvania milk by showing a three-eyed cow standing in a field near a nuclear power plant—clearly a reference to Three Mile Island.
