Ode to Mayor McCheese

Mcdonalds_logo_1 While we're on the subject of odes to McDonald's (see below), this seemed the perfect time to recall a bit of poetry which used to grace the trays on the high-chairs at McDonald's back in the seventies:

"Who's round and jolly and full of fun?
"Who's shaped like a great big hamburger bun?
"Who's got a job that's a super breeze?
"‘Who else?’ says Ronald, ‘But Mayor McCheese?’”

Ah, those were the days … sadly, if you go to McDonald's.com and do a search for Mayor McCheese, the site kicks back zero results. It's as though he never existed.

He's in prison with former Providence mayor Buddy Cianci. That's what you get for offering your special sauce to young children.

He could have as much status as the King if they brought him back in a clever way. Let's start a mayoral resurrection campaign!!

they might be down now, but just last summer there were some mayor mccheese billboards near both chicago airports welcoming folks to the windy city. i was happy to see that he hadn't been modernized at all.

Dear Catharine,

He became a Muslim in the mid-90s and changed his name to Yusuf McIslam. if you search the McDonald's site for "Yusuf McIslam", you'll find plenty of results.

Sincerely,
