Bogusky on Paris Hilton and why he doesn’t like people yelling at him

Bogusky_1 BusinessWeek Online today has posted a 14-minute video in which David Kiley interviews Alex Bogusky, aka “the maverick of Miami” (the magazine’s phrase). Bogusky discusses the polarizing Volkswagen work, why controversy equals success, and why his agency is not looking to make art or win awards. Please add your vitriolic reaction to the comments section below. UPDATE: Apparently this video is a companion piece to a feature story in BusinessWeek about Crispin Porter + Bogusky.

Alex, none of your work has become or will ever become real pop culture. You come at it from the wrong point of view. You should study Warhol, HIcks, Zappa and Merv Griffin. Only then will you understand the ignorant path you tread.

Merv Griffin may seem like a name that doesn't belong, but he "discovered" Richard Pryor and Rodney Dangerfield and bunches of other comedians who had brief but interesting acts. For a time, he had a TV show worth watching.
mingthemerciless, you of course know this is the 70th anniversary of Flash Gordon, the movie.
(On the other hand I am demonstrating the not so deft art of changing the subject on a blog.) If the VW work is polarizing, that could only be bad if they were selling 600,000 units and had mass appeal. Polarizing means they some adherents on their side of pole. What is controversial to me is a radio commercial I heard for Chrysler today with a German Professor or Engineer answering call-in questions about Chrsyler. The irony abounds since 62 years ago Chrysler landing craft were storming Omaha Beach and beginning th drive to send the Germans back to Dusseldorf. Now they own the builder of the landing crafts.
