Target employees, can you feel the beat?
Yesterday we posted a link to Henkel’s awful corporate song. Late in the day, a reader sent us this motivational song, created for Target employees. We have no idea how widely this song is/was being used in Target training programs and/or retreats; one rather hopes, for the employees’ sake, that it’s not trotted out too often. Some sample lyrics: “I feel happy, I feel proud/To have joined the Target crowd/First in service, shout out loud/We’re fast, fun and friendly!” This song is more upbeat and comical and somehow a bit less soul-crushing than the melodramatic Henkel song, but still. If anyone has any more of these corporate songs, send them on. We’re beginning to kind of enjoy them. —Posted by Tim Nudd |

Almost exactly a year ago Starbucks at their popular Annual Meeting did their own cover of "We built this city" by Jefferson Starship (coincedently voted as the worst rock song ever by Blender). The Execs performed on stage, in costume. The song is titled "We Built this Starbucks on Heart and Soul"
Here are some of the lyrics (but I can't find the audio online anymore):
Knee-deep in the mocha/making coffee right
So many partners/working late at night
We just want to build here--IMDS, does it pass?
We call on development to complete the task!
Living the way of being,
In the Green Apron Book!
Don't you remember?
We built this Starbucks on heart and soul!

I worked at Target for 7 years - from high school until I graduated college. That song is used in their training and orientation videos, etc. However, if you choose to go into a Target at say, exactly 8am when they open, you can find the entire store's "team members" at their "team huddle" discussing the agenda for the day, the salesforecast for the day and you will see them do ridiculous "stretches." Oh, and if you get caught without your name badge on, guess who's leading the team in stretches?
I used to try to skip out on them when I could. Talk about cult activity.

Commerce Bank's corporate culture thrives on this whole "wow the customer" philosophy. They have a series of albums containing well-known pop songs (with reworked lyrics) and some original tunes, with just awful, awful lyrics. You have to wonder what they were thinking as they penned, and ultimately recorded them.

Is that the same Commerce Bank run by Miburn P. Drysdale?

WOW...This is hilarious, we used to listen to this on repeat every morning from 730-800A before the store opening and we would laugh out asses off that they made this song. Our Store Manager would dance and thought it was the sweetest song ever.
