Everyone could use a helpful Trunk Monkey
More monkey news today. This time, Strategic Public Relations points us to the Trunk Monkey—a versatile fellow who hides in the trunks of cars and comes to his drivers’ rescue just in the nick of time, in ads for the Suburban Auto Group in Oregon. In this spot, he plays midwife at a backseat birth. In other spots, all of which are on the Web site, he threatens violence with a shotgun, inflicts violence with a metal club and tries to bribe a cop with cash and doughnuts. It’s sort of unclear what the Trunkmonkey product is, exactly. According to the Web site, it “lives in the trunk of any vehicle and helps to automate weight transfer at the rear wheels during spirited driving maneuvers.” |

The Trunk Monkey Ads are running here in Indiana, in the Indianapolis Market I do believe. Here they are for an auto dealership. They are very funny, but I don't know if they're all that affective because I cannot remember the dealership's name....

I should have said effective, not affective...I guess I'm affected....

Oh my god! I just graduated from Syracuse University where these play ALL THE TIME, and we could never figure out who was actually making and producing them. They were for the local Chevy dealer, so we assumed they were a local commercial, but the quality [though not spectacular] seemed too high for that. I would have never expected to see them here! Hysterical.

Yeah, they played in Charlotte a few years ago, also for a local dealership.

They played in the Des Moines market a year or two ago. Well, some of them did. They steered clear of the more "controversial" ones.

The Trunkmonkey started out as a mascot for the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club and Trunkmonkey Racing, a New England-based ProRally race team. The idea was "borrowed" by the R/West ad agency and Suburban Auto Group to create the commercials and is now syndicated internationally.
