Quiznos finally sends Baby Bob packing

Quiznos_1 Quiznos has a new marketing campaign that carries the tagline “Eat up” and focuses on something called a Flatbread Chopped Salad, which is apparently so good that it will be served, if you can believe it, with a “real metal fork.” But the real welcome news here is that Baby Bob has been fired. The lascivious talking toddler, who anchored Quiznos’ ads since January 2005, is “out of the picture,” confirms the press release. Bob’s ignominious demise follows a career of ups and downs. He began as a dot-com star, advertising FreeInternet.com. After the crash, he had his own sitcom on CBS. Then he displaced the Spongmonkeys as Quiznos’ ad spokesman. Through it all, he never ceased to annoy and creep out viewers. He still has his own corner on the Quiznos Web site, but hopefully that’s just an oversight. Quiznos once proudly remarked that Bob “blends baby appeal with a sophisticated 40-year-old personality.” How that’s meant to be appealing in any way remains a mystery.

Who's creepier: Baby Bob or the BK King?

Quizno's says the Baby Bob campaign was successful. A press release from http://quiznos.internetarchives.com/Press_Release_Detail.aspx?ContainerID=128&SectionNumber=1&AssetID=3961 says:

"Since the Quiznos Baby Bob “Strained Peas” television advertisement first cut its teeth in January, it has consistently ranked in the top ten for both likeability and consumer recall. According to IAG Research and Advertising Age magazine, it was the highest rated commercials in January.

"Last month, the Bob "Molars" spot was ranked as the seventh most liked new commercial in America and it earned a recall score greater than twice the national average. Bob represents the only restaurant to make the top ten in the current ranking - enough to make the competition cry like a baby."

I think Rob Siltanen got his money's worth out of this concept.

wasn't "baby bob" really a girl? maybe its next career move should be as "baby tranny" on "the surreal life."
