For all of that excrement, it's odd that they manage to make so much money.
I'm picturing a perfect world; no fast food, no over eating, no low grade beef over cooked and spiced up to hide the lack of quality, and no fat people.
Everyone is eating exactly what they're told to eat. Now shut up and be happy and healthy.

Not sure there's a connection, but the fourth horseman of the apocalypse is Death.

lots and lots of bad products make money. too often in America we equate popularity for quality. taco bell, da vinci code, madonna, they all appeal to our demand for instant gratification. but to think any of them are quality is silly. and a perfect world wouldn't be devoid of these things, it would hopefully just put them in a better prospective.

If people smoked more, they wouldn't be so fat.

Ok. maybe I'm an idiot and don't see an off button, but damnit that Wall Street Journal ad is annoying!

I loves me some Sam Adams beer. Loves me some Apple computers. Loves me some Martin guitars, Kenneth Cole shoes and Go! Team rock.
Also, I loves me some Taco Bell.
Snobs.

i loves me some Go! Team rock? Sorry chief, that's the same as taco bell. And Kenneth Cole? Uh, last I checked his clothes weren't exactly in the same class as Martin guitars. Because I shat on Da vinci code, taco bell and madonna doesn't mean I'm a snob--i just have better things to do with my time/money.

Whuzzah? You're making my point for me. For I also loves me some Doritos. Diet Coke. Intellivision.
And I don't needs me some "Ming" to feel better about my choices.
Peace, bro. However you find it.

Well, I guess I'll just put in my two cents from what I see as a college student.
Taco Bell is well-loved among all of us, especially late at night. And from what I hear, it's the best food to eat when you're drunk (I haven't experienced it first-hand, but I'll be sure to give it a try this fall).
I'm not sure how much of an impact the FourthMeal has made on my age group, though, since we would crave Taco Bell at 1 a.m. regardless.

Taco Bell rocks!
Bring back the dog!!
Yo.

We should just add another stomach while were at it !

Toxic Hell is a great place for cheap eats when on a super-tight budget and you're craving a late night snack.
But, for the last 15 years, my now-adult tummy can no longer stand the food.
...I think this is a good thing.
But...a "fourth meal"? *sigh* Good lord.
Toxic Hell, thanks for adding to the fat of America.

Sorry to say, the best food if you're drunk is the Stretch at Broadway Diner in Columbia, Mo. I realize this might be a long, dangerous drive for most of you, but such is life.

Ya know, ya don't have to eat a fourth meal just because someone tells ya about it.
And if ya do, eat sensibly the other 3 meals. It all works out.
The occasional fourth meal at Taco Bell after a fun night with friends is a nice way to cap things off.
C'mon.....we all do it every once in a while.

However unhealthy the concept is, you have to give them credit for recognizing their audience. Taco Bell is definitely the choice of most late-night drunk snacks, so they are smart to not ignore that demographic.

Again - I can see that we're blaming our society for the fact that 2/3 of Americans are fat. It's not the fault of the society - it's called personal responsibility people!! Hey - isn't enough that I already have to pay (through taxes & higher insurance premiums) for other people's unhealthy habits & lack of will power? I'm not also, as a society, going to take the blame for it by condemning a fast food company for coming up with an campaign to re-name a meal that some people already eat. There's nothing wrong with Taco Bell or any other fast food company. There IS something wrong with the people who cannot control themselves & eat only unhealthy food & don't get enough excercise & then blame an advertisement campaign because they are fat & are going to die of a heart attack.

I find it odd that this culture on one hand admonishes and damns the fat, yet can't get enough of their OTHER lazy tools: cell phones, internet, SUVs, remote controls.
Hypocrites

Hmmm... People have a choice. Don't eat at Taco Bell or any other place that you think may cause obesity....I love people that blame everyone and everything else for thier problems........ get a frieken clue
Posted by: Tony | Jun 20, 2006 4:08:48 PM
yeah it sucks that taco bell is encouraging people to eat poopy food late at night, BUT i think mrsalty has a point about PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY - businesses like taco bell (well, most...) are just responding to consumer desire. as more americans made the choice to be healthy, then food vendors will respond accordingly (10 years ago, who woulda thought of salads or fruit&yogurt cups at mcdonalds's?)
p.s. - i weigh more than 300 pounds

it's a free country. people are free to make crap. sell crap. buy crap. but we shouldn't admire a company that makes lousy tacos, sells them with lousy advertising and then tries to foist a stupid marketing tactic on the public.

OK, I know that as a 27-year-old, many people don't value or even recognize my opinions. That being said, I'm tired of getting a bad wrap because a lot of my generation has never had to take the blame for their actions. A large percentage of my generation has never had to deal with the consequences of their actions. I'm happy to see (even though I don't know their ages) that there are some people who see the real problem is a lack of self-control. Don't blame fast food because you don't know when to stop eating. Be an adult and take responsibility for your actions. I love Taco Bell (and am eating it for dinner tonite), but I choose to eat there sometimes and choose not to other times. It's a decision I make, not one some advertising scheme make for me.

Jeremy,
I agree with you. I hate all those people who try to find "good" things when mediocre things are so accessible. I don't know what taco bell puts in their tacos but it sure fills my belly good. And it comes out of me looking just like it did going in, if you know what I mean.
Posted by: mingthemerciless | Jun 21, 2006 10:17:30 AM
If we're talking fatty -- I think we should be focusing on what's really important. The KFC bowl o' fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and "three cheese blend."
Posted by: Jessica | Jun 21, 2006 12:12:13 PM
has anyone noticed that you rarely see Latinos eating at taco bell? that tells you something.
Posted by: HighJive | Jun 21, 2006 5:23:43 PM
Get self control. We all eat things we shouldn't. Don't blame a food cahin for your fat. You proberly eat that way at home also.
Posted by: carollee | Jul 6, 2006 5:34:16 PM
Personal responsibility is just one part of the equation.
The other part of the problem is suburban lifestyles that discourage walking.
You also have the constant increase in size of softdrinks and portions. (remember when a small cup was 12 oz? not 24 oz?)
When you compare education efforts in France (the thinnest white people) versus those in other countries you see that education on how to eat starts as soon as a child is born. In America parents are told to let their children decide what they want to eat. In France parents are told to decide for their children. Those lessons add up to a lifetime of good and bad eating habits.

Posted by: lisa | Oct 2, 2007 12:15:33 AM
latinos don't eat there 'cause they haven't recycled enough cans to afford going there; besides, most are fat enough. Kind of like how blacks spend their welfare money on rims and kfc!
Posted by: BB | May 30, 2008 7:31:43 AM
whoa, Lisa, did you seriously just post that comment?
