In the Moog for an old Schaefer spot?
Maybe because it's the weekend, and maybe because we've been wallowing in 1970s nostalgia this week by watching way too much of VH1’s I Love the 70s, but it seems a fine time to point to this clip, which not only contains some historical stuff about how the Moog synthesizer became popular in ad agencies but also a classic Schaefer beer commercial, in which the TV theme composer Edd Kalehoff plays the old Schaefer jingle on the synthesizer. (In the interview before the actual spot, Robert Moog, on the left, is being interviewed by Walter Sear.) If you were around back then, the commercial is bound to open a door within your brain that's long been closed, and if you weren't, it’s a window into the weirdness that was the 1970s. One thing’s for sure: it contains a tagline you’ll never see again in a beer commercial: “Schaefer is the one beer to have, when you’re having more than one.” (See Pete Coors post below.) The video was posted by Edd's son, Max, who writes about it here.

I was just a kid back then, but I do remember those ads, and have grown up while beer ads backed away from admitting that maybe people used their product until they weren't legal to drive. It's a subtle dance, isn't it? Very interesting Coors post!
