Has anyone heard the Ben & Jerry's "Chunkabulary" radio ads that are also running right now? Another made-up word campaign, but the words are actually funny. Not sure who beat whom to the punch.

The word Rectom is what jumped out at me too. And what does a snickers look like...?

I read in AdWeek that there's supposed to be humongo billboards that are cross sections of Snickers bars ... I really want to see one of those!

In Chicago I've seen:
satisfectellent
nougatocity
substantialiscious
hungerectomy
peanutopolis
Mostly on busses and taxi-top ads. However! I *think* I may have seen an actual Snickers bar wrapper with one of these words. Anyone else?

I think there is a hidden message on these on these billboards saying eat more snickers... because I have had nearly one a day, and I hadn't eaten snickers since I was a kid. Just today, I went to the vending machine and they were all gone, and I did not eat them all : )

All I’ve seen is the Hungerectomy version in Boston (taking up both sides of a city bus) and I thought it was in poor taste and an idiotic advertising strategy to associate a candy bar with a very serious surgery that involves the removal of a woman’s reproductive organs. A “Hysterectomy” was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the ad and it actually made me loose my appetite and never want to purchase a Snickers bar again. Kudos to Mars Inc! You’ve managed to loose at least one customer with this brilliant campaign.

Ok h, a word with the suffix "-ectomy" refers to the removal of something, in this case a hungerectomy would be the removal of hunger. So it actually doesn't really have anything to do with a hysterectomy, but congrats on noticing that both words start with "H." Maybe you should get an education and stop looking for things to get all worked up over.
Oh, and yes I've seen hungerectomy, substantialiscious and nougatocity on the actual candy wrapper.

shouldn't "substantialiscious" actually be spelled "substantialicious" if they're trying to combnie substantial + delicious??..there's an extra s in there...i'll bet intentional too, but don't know why....boy, those snickers people at masterfoods usa keep us guessing, huh?!

I've seen similar billboards in Portland with phrases such as "Climb Mt. Foodji", and "Get Dunked on by Patrick Chewing". Who thinks this is a 'smart' campaign, from anything but the 'crassly appealing to the lowest common denominator' perspective?
Oh, recession.

Unfortunately, the governor will not get the message. It's called business as usual.

I have also seen one in Portland that says "Learn under master CHEW SUM YUM" which I find more than a little rascist.
Posted by: Angry Monkey | Mar 9, 2009 12:27:47 AM
lol, the ad "learn under master CHEW SUM YUM" is ingenious.
Not racist at all...im tired of people in Portland always ensuing that something is racist. makes me ashamed to live there

Agree: "Hungerectomy" should not be offensive to women (ever hear of appendectomy, tonsillectomy, or *vasectomy*??). Also, "Master CHEW SUM YUM", while vaguely juvenile, is still funny and not racist. "Racist" would be something that makes a negative or dismissive slur against E.Asian people. I don't see that here.
I came to this blog because the Snickers ads, which I consider brilliant, have been showing up in Chicago in recent weeks (February-March 2009) and I did a google search to read something about it.

Let's be clear here: the style of the ads IS genius-the use of their font and familiar red border on brown background is instantly recognizeable and clever. But the content, people, the CONTENT!!!! These are the stupidest word mash-ups I've ever heard. And the recent rash of entirely lame and abstract phrases is just insulting. I mean, Patrick Ewing retired from playing years ago, and you can imagine that for a Bostonian that ad is more of a turn off. How is that ad even relevant anywhere besides New York? I agree with C, "Oh, recession."

These snicker ads are brilliant. Im 25, just moved to boston from Colorado and I bought my first snicker bar in years because of these ads. Thats fine if you dont like the ads, they cant be for everyone. But for my roomate and I, they are absolutely hysterical. We have great fun finding new ads to talk and laugh about. A+ for whoever thought this up.

I saw a Snaxi while I was in Manhattan. Also, the "Get Dunked on by Patrick Chewing" commercial is my favorite commercial on television right now. I explain why hither:

Also, adfreaks folk, does me posting a link to my blog on related material count as promotional? I don't want to be a jerk, I just want to be popular.

But people are talking...that's the goal of marketing, right?

" "Racist" would be something that makes a negative or dismissive slur against E.Asian people."
Oh, but juvenilially and incorrectly mocking a cultures language and culture isnt. Hrrm...I wonder if this would have passed as an ad if it were instead geared towards African Americans (short answer is simply no) why? because racial relations here in the United States is only a black and white issue, where anything said against blacks is untouchable. Asian Americans are not allowed at the table for racial relations quite yet. So then, of course "Chew sum yum" is deemed OK, when in fact, it is simply NOT.
