Is YouTube’s new ad model a good thing?
I’m not really interested in having a discussion, serious or otherwise, about Paris Hilton’s new album, but I’d love to know what people think of YouTube’s new ad model, which does feature a video from her new album. In case you missed the news, YouTube started to tell people late yesterday that it is launching several new ad products, including what it calls “Branded Channels” the first of which is the Paris Hilton Channel. For one (and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing), it's a great example of there being no division between content and advertising—the channel is sponsored by the Fox series Prison Break. The embedded video above appears on the site here, if you want to see how it’s incorporated into the YouTube home page. YouTube is calling the ad—which is really a Paris Hilton music video with a brief intro—a PVA, for participatory video ad. No, it doesn’t mean you can surgically alter the video using YouTube tools. It does mean that it can be shared, embedded and so forth just like other YouTube content. Anyway, tell us what you think. —Posted by Catharine P. Taylor |

Hi
I am trying to find a specific TV Ad and was wondering if you know anything about it. It's an ad where a word IF is used in different renditions. It turns into butterfly ... and that's all i know about it...
any clues? THANKS!

I think this is a great idea. Advertisers need to get to the point where their messages actually contain a value proposition instead of just communicate a value proposition!

I also thought I had wasted 4 minutes plus of my time watching this piece of crap, then I realized I was at work and it was the bosses time I had wasted Just another reason for Paris to show her skanky ass

This is in response to sean's question about the 'IF' commercial. If you meant the 'IT' commercials, they are for eBay. I couldn't track them down anywhere, however.

Personally, I think it's a brilliant strategy. YouTube gets the revenue, but users aren't forced to watch anything they don't want to. The real question is how will brands respond to their own branded channels. It'll be interesting to watch the different tecniques employed until a clear brand standard is set for using YouTube (vry much like brands a struggling to figure out the best way to leverage MySpace).
Anyway, good on YouTube for coming up with an innovative idea that works for both them and their users.

Back on the topic of the off-topic If commercial, it could be the promos for the SciFi Channel. Their short bumpers show all sorts of weird things with "iF" becoming part of the channel logo.
