Hummer conquers land, moves on to sea

Hummer_2 You know, I’ve spent the past three months hoping that a Hummer H3 would take a long dive off a short pier. Just my luck, then, that the guy in this ad pimps his Hummer into a submarine. What makes it worse is that Hummer probably offers this option, and someone may have already taken them up on it. Perhaps in the next ad we’ll see an H3 converted into a working tank, so the driver can go get his own damn oil. Via ’boards.

OK, the tank line is officially the funniest thing I've read all day.

im with corrupted journalist. that actually made me laugh aloud.

NOT self promoting here, just thought it was funny because I had a posting on my site with a fictional Hummer vehicle as well.

Posted by: Adbrat | Sep 25, 2006 7:10:59 PM

I hope this commercial encourages more Hummer drivers to drive off bridges and cliffs and attempt this themselves.

Trust me, it will work...just try it!

why you guys hate HUMMER? i like their branding. and they're getting smaller & cooler.

Posted by: asgoodasitgets | Sep 26, 2006 10:56:35 AM

Cooler? What, they put a bigger A/C in them?

They are getting smaller, but it's relative - the vehicles are STILL HUGE and a GIANT waste of gas!

And the most important question:
Why do you need one? To get groceries? To drive to the bank?
Almost no one does any "off-roading" so Hummers are nothing but gas-guzzling ego boosters.

Posted by: ChrisM70 | Sep 26, 2006 1:43:30 PM

nobody NEEDS a hummer, just like nobody NEEDS a tailored $1400 suit, when a suit from Sears Roebuck will do just fine.

if everyone only cared about getting from A to B, we'd all drive volvos. but it's about more than that. just like the clothes you buy are about more than covering your body.

and yes, they are huge. and at $2+ a gallon, those most affected by gas prices probably aren't in the market for a hummer anyway.

Posted by: asgoodasitgets | Sep 26, 2006 3:20:06 PM

must. not. make juvenile joke... about people "in the market for a hummer."

Posted by: CorruptedJournalist | Sep 26, 2006 3:58:39 PM

I guess some people NEVER get it...

It's not just about the PRICE of gas, it's about the WASTEFULNESS.
If you could afford to litter the streets with banana peels, people wouldn't be mad that you are rich enough to do it, people would be mad because you are littering!

So when you drive a giant SUV, you are spewing a lot more pollutants into the air, destroying air quality and contributing to global warming. Plus, as most other people know, gas isn't infinite. One day it will run out, so in the interests of clean air and to help AMERICA, you could try not to WASTE GAS.

Uh, i believe this is an ADvertising related website.
We work for big corporations so we can support a family someday.

Who the hell comes to an advertising forum and tries to start a discussion about the wastefulness of SUVs?

Pretty sure Modernista in Boston does Hummer ads and.....i'm sure their families are quite well taken care of.

ChrisM70,
Hummers run suprisingly clean. Do more research than just Al Gore's movie before you start talking about things you clearly don't know about. If you're concerned with wastefulness, is Hummer really where you want to start?

Ditto,
Exactly!

Posted by: GMguy | Sep 26, 2006 8:21:25 PM

I get the feeling that many here just don't care about the environment? The future of our children? How about what is good for AMERICA?

It's really simple...
Hummers use a lot of gas and that is wasteful. Gas costs a lot of money, and our country has to buy that gas from somewhere. Also, regardless of how "clean" the Hummers run, they are still burning large amounts of fuel - that's not good.

Finally, I didn't "start" with the Hummer. This post was about Hummers and I wanted to point out how terrible they are. Yes, I'm sure Escalades and Excursions are even worse, but this post wasn't about those vehicles, was it?

Posted by: ChrisM70 | Sep 27, 2006 9:02:42 AM

ChrisM70,
Imagine if someone posted a lengthy comment on an environmental blog about the great job a company had done in its branding & advertising. Would be out-of-place and off-topic, wouldn't it?

You could cry about the environmental harm of most– if not all– car companies and most product companies. Big deal. Don't do it here. It annoys people.

Posted by: asgoodasitgets | Sep 27, 2006 9:31:52 AM

Oh, give ChrisM70 a break. At least he's coherent, unlike half the comments in the Vampirefreaks post.

Posted by: 2bitWrestleman | Sep 27, 2006 11:13:13 AM

Honestly, I don't care if it annoys you.

Someone posted about how "cool" the Hummers were, and wondered why people didn't like them.

Well, I posted and told you WHY I don't like them.
Now that I have coherently told you why I (and many other people) don't like Hummers, you now are upset that this isn't "the right forum".

The argument seems to be that you are either FOR advertising or FOR the environment. What, you can't be for BOTH?

Whatever. I personally think the environment should be a concern for everyone regardless of the forum.

Really? Is this the only aim? A little scary if you ask me. Advertising exists in no more of a vacuum than car companies or oil companies, especially when we are the ones polishing their images.

As demand for corporate environmental and social responsibilty rises in the public (which it most definitely is), agencies will have to reflect that sentiment.

Rather than accepting what you do in advertising as a creative job that puts a Benz in your garage, the industry may be a little more sustainable if you can stand behind what you were working towards. This is where Modernista runs into a snag.

Posted by: vacuum | Sep 27, 2006 12:44:17 PM

That's why Modernista has put so much time and resources into Bono's (RED) campaign. It hasn't hit in the US yet, but is all over UK. Good stuff.

I want to buy a hummer to impress my girlfriend. I dont care if it wastes gas, because gas wont run out anytime soon. My email address is slouchycross@yahoo.com if you want to email me.

Posted by: Paul | Feb 6, 2007 1:30:32 PM

OK I own a H3. Before my H3 I owned a Pickup. I get the same gas mileage with my H3. If I choose to pay for the gas then that is my choice. I own a H3 because I enjoy off roading and outdoor sports. I will probably never get rid of my H3 unless they come out with the Hydrogen one for open sales. So lets do the math I buy 1 H3 for the next 40 years you buy 6 or 7 cars because you have to. Who is hurting the enviroment.
