No, HP actually really values privacy
So, the alleged spymasters at Hewlett-Packard co-sponsor an award for “privacy innovation” every year. Ironic? I disagree. In fact, it’s downright brilliant. What better cover for a company accused of spying on its board members and the media? Kind of like James Bond “dying” in You Only Live Twice. (Even Blofeld was tricked for a while, even though the title pretty much gave the game away.) Hey, Microsoft is a past HP/IAPP Privacy Innovation Award winner. Great choice! I’d trust Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer to safeguard my sensitive data any day (wink, wink). For this year’s prize, I nominate HP itself: a great corporate citizen, bastion of business ethics, all-around pillar of society and steadfast protector of privacy. (Now can I please have my $100 printer rebate?)
