Dixie Chicks trailer: must-not-see TV?

The Weinstein Co., which is distributing the new Dixie Chicks documentary Shut Up & Sing, says NBC and the CW are refusing to air the trailer (above) because it’s “disparaging to President Bush.” Of course, if everything that was disparaging to President Bush were taken off the air, we’d have hour upon hour of dead space. No doubt they’re going nuts about this news over at the Chicks’ fan blog.

Will NBC cancel Saturday Night Live? Or at least have them fire Will Forte? Can't have any disparaging of the President on the network.

Maybe NBC"s refusing to air the trailer because the film looks like much ado about nothing. So a couple of multimillionaire artistic sellouts make the mistake of saying some remarks that alienate their flag-waving, Walmart-shopping fan base. Now we all have to go watch them whine about the injustice of it all for two hours?? Maybe the Chicks should just sit back and revel in how much more fortunate they are than all the folks who can't relate to what they said whose hard earned money helped them become so rich and priviledged in the first place.

The whole Dixie Chicks dustup isn't about free speech. It's about rich pampered entertainers who forgot their core audience. There has to be demand for the product you supply...
