Town has balls to approve testicle festival
What would the Turkey Testicle Festival be without its middle name? Just another festival, organizers told the Fort Myers Beach, Fla., city council, which relented and allowed the sponsoring Surf Club bar to use the name for the fourth year. Over objections that the word testicle makes the festival inappropriate to advertise in the presence of children, the council voted 4-1 to let the name stand. The event, which raises money for charity, is based on an adults-only bands-and-booze festival that’s been held annually in Byron, Ill., for the past 27 years. (That’s their logo shown here; also, be sure to check out the Turkey Testicle Festival official song.) To win approval of the name, one Fort Myers Beach council member identified 12 other cities that hold annual events that include the word testicle. Here is a list of some of those festivals and some handy ways to avoid using the word itself.
