» Flogging Sony and Zipatoni from Greg Verdino's Marketing Blog
Doesn't anybody pay attention anymore? Sony has been outed for its flog All I Want for Christmas is a PSP, on which one fake dude launches a campaign to help another fake dude a PSP. The operative word here is fake. Get the details at AdFreak. One more... [Read More]

» Another flog is exposed from DIGITAL STREET JOURNAL
Here we go again.
The idea of using the blogosphere has taken another unfortunate hit as its been discovered that All I Want For Xmas is a PSP is nothing but a fake blog, a.k.a. flog. The company foolish enough to create it was Ziporati and t... [Read More]

The kids really go for this "bloggin'" nowadays! Let's tap into that and create synergystic communities of today's youth.
Posted by: Dumm Acct Guy | Dec 12, 2006 1:50:04 PM
this site is registered to Greg Meyerkord @ Zipatoni. here is Meyerkord's real website http://www.meyerkord.com/meyerkord.com/About%20Me.html
if you look at his photo, you'll realize that it is the same guy in the picture header of the fake blog!!
Posted by: sad | Dec 12, 2006 3:26:14 PM
I wonder how many times we'll have to tell brands to avoid these poor attempts.
And the fact that they actually claim innocence is really pathetic indeed.
Posted by: Michele | Dec 13, 2006 8:35:18 AM
You'd think that, you know, after Wal-Mart got slapped for this, people would realize that creating fake blogs is probably a bad idea. Oh well... maybe people are planning on making their New Year's resolutions to "be more transparent."
Posted by: Jeff Berg | Dec 13, 2006 4:28:24 PM
I can attest that Greg Meyerkord had nothing to do with that offending site. He parted with Zipatoni several years ago, but apparently his email is still active there. I guess they used the old address to hide behind.
Posted by: 7zark7 | Dec 13, 2006 4:31:15 PM
Is his blog fake? Noone could be that lame. Now, tsk, tsk Mr. Sony. You should know better. Why don't you creatives realize that the hardcore gamers and grafitti artists, can sniff out the bogus? I love the Playstation campaigns, but why lame out on something you only read about in magazines?
Posted by: Fortyver | Dec 13, 2006 4:57:23 PM
Three questions to ask before you roll out your clever viral marketing campaign:
(a) Is it unique?
(b) Is it compelling?
(c) Is it honest?
This campaign shoots itself in the foot with (a) by appearing to be from... a 14-year-old that can't spell, as best I can discern.
Is it compelling? Only to make fun of, which might have worked if we didn't immediately grace over the PSP aspect and begin pummeling Sony and more gravely, Zipatoni. You may believe that there's no such thing as bad PR, but when every mention of your promotion is paired with a negative blog posting or comment, you better believe that there's such a thing as bad viral marketing.
Is it honest? All I Want For Xmas is a PSP? Who is saying that in December of 2006?! I forgot the PSP even existed with all of the Wii and PS3 talk.
It's not cool. It's not new. It's not awesome. You could almost call it pathetic. It is cheaper than both of the other options, however. Sounds like a campaign I would have enjoyed. "I may be lame, but I'm better than nothing." They could have ran TV ads with "Love The One You're With" as the theme. :-)

I used to work for Zipatoni and I can attest that Greg Meyerkord has nothing to do with this site. He left Zip years ago.
Posted by: Zipper | Dec 14, 2006 3:13:14 PM
I will also attest that Greg Meyerkord had nothing to do with this. He's long gone from Zipatoni. I can't believe they used his name. Perhaps he should take some action...?

Please read this, you will be excited. When you click this link, http://www.cashcrate.com/index.php?ref=193053 you will sign up for a website that pays you 2 - 45$ (PER) to do surveys, sign up for trial offers, and test products.
Companies such as ebay pay cashcrate to have people try their offers, and when you complete an offer, cashcrate simply passes the money onto you. By spending an average of 3-4 hours a week on cascrate,
I have made 472$ in December, 412$ in January, and 271$ (SO FAR) in February. You get paid in real checks from "KINGSIDE MEDIA" every month that you earn 5 dollars or more. It may seem too good to be true,
but I assure you it IS true. Also, with their referral program, you can refer people by sending them your link (you get when you sign up) and for every buck they earn, you get 20 cents also! (Think how much money you can make if you have 100 people making five bucks a day)
You do not have to enter your credit card or social security number. Nothing Harmful can come from cashcrate. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE 18 OR OLDER, I AM 17 YEARS OLD AND REFERRING PEOPLE, AND I MAKE THIS MUCH MONEY A MONTH
JUST SPENDING A COUPLE MINUTES A DAY ON THE COMPUTER! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READING THIS.
Think it's a scam? Read this(from the website) "We assure you that this is not a scam! Companies need consumers to try and review products, services, and websites and are willing to pay money to have them do so.
Most of the time you're asked to do this without any compensation, what we do is take the money companies give us for YOUR participation, and give you back up to 75% of it!"
There are alot of websites like this, I have tried almost all of them and this really is the best, and legit one.

Am I just a great big cycnic? I mean don't these huge corporations have enough money. They sell products and make it really hard to download stuff without having to pay for it. Now I hear they are gearing up for paid subscription service to dwonload all their stuff. I find it really hard to do this manually and would love to know how to download to psp without it scrambling my head! Argggghhhh!
Posted by: Jody Carter | Mar 8, 2008 6:33:59 AM
Personally, I am not surprised or even outraged that sony would do this. The fact of the matter is that corporations spend billions of dollars each year trying to convince the people to buy their products or services. We are already being continuously subjected to manipulation and distortion, so this fake psp blog is not really such a huge deal. There are many companies which have done much worse things than this.
