If I were a brand, I don't know if I would want to be thought of at the same time that people are annoyed and exhasperated by "take off my belt, shoes and jacket, take out my laptop and put in a separate bin, take all change and keys out of my pockets, remove jewelry that could set the sensor off, all while the angry impatient lady behind me is pushing me," etc.

I agree. At those checkpoints I just want to get through and move on. Not stop and read an ad.

That was my first reaction too, Johanna, but (a) you could likely craft an ad that acknowledged the situation and create sympathy or (b) - the more likely option- the ads will be for shops and restaurants in the airport itself, and as annoyed as you might be at the moment, knowing there was a Friday's at terminal A might not be a bad thing.

But you are a brand. What is stopping you from putting messages on the bottom of your soles? You hand out some crayons to the people in line. You got the idea...

So the TSA will be chasing ad dollars instead of terrorists.

anyone else think it would be a great place for long copy?

Great branding opportunity:
“This cavity search brought to you by Vasoline®”

Nothing is off limits anymore is what it boils down to. There are ads in bathroom stalls and port-o-lets so how could a security bin be any worse than that?
Everywhere we turn there is an ad of some sort, and all they are looking to do is capture a second or two of your attention. The security bins will likely capture a couple of seconds if for no other reason than you aren't expecting to see one there (yet).

I think it could be a great idea. Break up the shear boredom of the experience. Here's my thoughts on who should advertise (and what they should say):

Why any marketer would want to be associated with such a negative and annoying act is beyond me.
