Last night's Hollywood crowd was in true elitist, hypocritical form.
Preaching the gospel of fuel efficiency, conservation of resources and the reduction of our collective carbon footprint, while their limo's idled outside on Hollywood Blvd waiting to transport them to Santa Monica Airport and their 13 passenger Gulfstream G4's.
I'll listen to George Clooney tell me how to live my life when he gives up the air-conditioned golf cart, the Italian villas and starts riding the bus to work.
BTW, special note to Al Gore -- step away from the buffet table and leave some food for the starving children.

I'm sick of the global warming hysteria, sick seeing scientists who don't believe in global warming being ostracized. Gore isn't a scientist, he's a politician and a major bore that needs to get a life!
Fuck the Oscars! It was nothing more than your usual Bush-bashing festival of rich liberals.
If they love the environment so much, why don't they move to the amazon and try to live off the land like the indians do? I would love to see Leonardo Dicaprio hunting an animal, he would probably starve.
As for Diesel, they have a sense of humor. Although I'm not wasting my money in their overpriced junk.

what flavor is the conservative kool aid today, bobby?
Posted by: Paul | Feb 27, 2007 12:36:53 PM
It's liberals who drink the kool-aid, Paul.
Remember Jim Jones? He was a socialist.
Posted by: Bobby | Feb 27, 2007 1:26:28 PM
Don't worry, Bobby, the scientists who don't believe in global warming will seek comfort from those who are certain the earth is flat.
Posted by: james | Feb 27, 2007 3:28:54 PM
wow. Bobby, are you serious? scientific fact isn't liberal or conservative. fact is fact. and it's not about loving the environment, it's about taking care of the planet we live on so that we can take care of ourselves and our children's children. Jesus H. Christ, wake up and see beyond political and party lines.
Posted by: POPE | Feb 27, 2007 6:37:49 PM
Who is serious?
Fact is fact? Are you kidding?
Everything is agenda-based. Everything.
And no the argument is not settled on this matter. There is a huge contigent of scientists who don't agree with the concept of global warming. They believe the supposed increase in temps is due to increased solar activity.
Also, if you're really concerned about the future of the planet, pay attention to the bloodthirsty Islamicists who seek to impose Sharia law, establish a Caliphate and send all apostates to the Dirt Nap.

Bob, the limos were hybrid cars. While there's a good chance your gospel is one far easier to pick apart, they were serious about walking the talking.
Posted by: lionel | Feb 28, 2007 5:46:30 AM
Rich, most of the scientist who believe global warming isn't human caused are on the payroll of oil companies - you're right, "Everything is agenda-based. Everything." Do you have backups for your claims or are you just from the hip? Al Gore is also right that this is no longer a political problem, this is a moral problem. If you have kids, you should be worried about leaving a place for them to live. Read the following articles for more information. Also, read the UN report about how messed up things are. If we don't fix this problem, doesn't matter if your on the left OR the right, we're all screwed.

I have a problem taking morality lessons from hypocrites. Al needs to reduce his carbon footprint as well as his gastric footprint.
And yes, I do have kids, Jewish kids. Who are much more likely to have their throats slit by Islamic neanderthals than get a sunburn in January.

ok first off, only one person has commented on the actual ads. i think they are hilarious, and pretty well done.
2nd. these 2 websites are perfect contradictory sites to global warming theorists. i have no idea either way, because the numbers are convincing on both sides, but if you look at this first site, it gives you reason to understand both sides of the argument. Water Vapor.
if you account for water vapor as a contributing factor to global warming.
Listen the planet has gone into about 3 ice ages or more since the birth of earth, what makes you think that we're doing so much to increase its speed. hey its supposed to happen every 15,000 years or so, and all the data i see only goes back to the early 1000's or 1200's. not far enough...
whichever way we're all going to die in 50 years so who cares.

"most of the scientist who believe global warming isn't human caused are on the payroll of oil companies - you're right,"
---This is exactly how liberals operate. If you don't agree with them, you're on the take of big oil, big tobacco, you're a racist, a bigot, a homophobe, etc.
The fact is that Gore, Hollywood and Leonardo DiCaprio ignore the science that doesn't agree with their views.
But whatever, believe in global waming. I just hope you enjoy the future global carbon taxes you'll have to pay. Because that's the ultimate goal of the environmental movement! Nature at the expense of people. They don't care if DDT kills malaria, they'll ban it. They don't care if development creates jobs, they'll stand against it. They don't care if California suffers blackouts, they'll oppose new power plants.
But you want to believe in them and their so-called scientists? Fine. Whatever.

Much better shots than some previous Diesel campaigns, this looks great. Who's the photographer?
Posted by: Dabitch | Mar 1, 2007 3:44:45 PM
While some of the Hollywood elite attended the ceremony in hybrid cars, they were far outnumbered by their sanctimonious, self-serving, hypocritical brethren who aren't concerned about THEIR carbon footprint but publicly miffed about mine....

From the National Geographic. Here's proof that the mainstream media ignores the truth about how humans aren't too blame for global warming.
"Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says"

Though many may think we live here in Brazil with monkeys and Indians there are big cities here that are suffering with the unbelievable warm. Last January was the worst month since 1880 when meteorologists started counting... sure you can have sense of humor, but making fun of it turns this serious subject very trivial, and that´s not going to help us change this situation.

"most of the scientist who believe global warming isn't human caused are on the payroll of oil companies - you're right"
Wow, did you ever stop and ask yourself who pays the scientists who do believe in global warming? It's funny how any time a scientist is against global warming he or she is paid off by the industry and ridiculed, while the majority of climate scientists can be paid off by environmental organizations with no conflict of interest whatsoever.
These scientists can't feed their children unless they know the environmental organizations will fund them in the future, and the environmental organization workers can't feed their children unless they promote consensus science like global warming and get donations from people like you, and me ,until a few short years ago.
What disturbs me is not the large group of volunteers working on the bottom rung. they're great, we need more of them in this world. I'm talking about the environmental execs, riding in lear jets coast to coast to meet with philanthropists and give speeches.

BTW, are you sure Clooney is a against global warming. "Good night and Good Luck" would suggest otherwise.

As far as the Diesel ads go, they are very creative... They are all landmarks which appeal to many tourists who have visited those places.
For the Global Warming standpoint, I feel that both politcal parties are not serious about any action against this threat. Republicans don't spend their budget on trying to find alternative fuel sources for reasons which include: foreign relations, economic situation, and its position on their agenda. If an alternative was found its price would likely be at costs much higher than petroleum and would act as a disincentive for many Americans to buy it. So what's the point? If you force businesses to freight their products in hydrogen powered trucks, how much will bottled water cost? In addition, third world countries which drive cars that could be found in the US in the 50s are causing more pollution that our automobiles. If we don't buy the gasoline, some other country with less fuel efficient cars will. When they buy the oil, will they care that the money used to pay for it may or may not be going to the people or to the governemnt? And what about the oil tanker flags of convenience? Many countries do not have the hull requirements that the US does. Will there be another oil spill because the restrictions used to transport the oil diminish? The middle east sells oil for the money; that being said, they will continue to sell oil until they run out. Should we use it on our more and more fuel efficient and hybird cars? Or should other countries use it in their 1960 fords? Democrats say they want to research hydrogen as a fuel, but ignore other alternatives. Hollywood likes the attention just like Diesel does. It is obviously not because they do what they say. They want wind powered electricity but do not vote on bills to put turbines in their city because it will degrade the appearance of their city. Let's get real, they do it for the attention, not the other way around. Incentives for hybrid is the way to go. Marriott for example valet parks hybrid cars for free. If more preference is given to hybrid cars and their performance goes up then so will their popularity.

Love the pictures by Diesel. However, I went throught the Y2K hype, planes would crash, etc. due to computors crashing!!!!hello didn't happen, but it created alot of media and money and scare mongering. Here we go again, who thinks this stuff up??? Ancient cities have been buried and we are just discovering them now, what makes this generation think it control the world and keep their million dollar homes perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the waters edge when entire cities have disappeared centuries ago?, all God is asking is you become like Jesus Christ. He sent Him into our world for our benefit, that is the answer to all social issues but while we put our focus on our planet is falling apart we neglect we are the ones falling apart. I challenge believers and non believers to really look at the person Jesus and see how you really measure up in the scheme of character and real life living.

Hi xcvz-
You argued that "If we don't buy the gasoline, some other country with less fuel efficient cars will" because "The middle east sells oil for the money; that being said, they will continue to sell oil until they run out." and then you ask: "Should we use it on our more and more fuel efficient and hybird cars? Or should other countries use it in their 1960 fords?" implying that it would be better for us to use it.
Yes, of course anyone selling oil does so for the money, and the less demand there is for oil (or any product) the lower its price. The US and other industrialized countries create most of the demand for oil in the world. (http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/analysis_publications/oil_market_basics/dem_image_cons_per_cap.htm#Consumption%20of%20Oil%20Per%20Capita) So if these countries bought less, the price would drop and oil-producing countries would cut supply to match demand and try to keep prices from dropping too much. They won't simply "sell until they run out" if no one's buying and they can't get a good price.
My larger point is that oil markets are global and thus very complex. Significant changes in demand would have all sorts of consequences, which policymakers should look into when implementing carbon cuts, etc., though cuts that big aren't likely to come soon. Thinking that "if we don't use it someone else will" isn't really sufficient, but we DO need to think about a global market where players like China and India ARE likely to sop up any oil we save unless those countries and the rest of the international community work together toward breaking our GLOBAL dependence on oil.

Lissa,
I'm a student of religion and I like your comment's suggestion that one ought to take the perspective of all history and see the inherent fragility of our civilization. Jesus certainly asks us to turn inward as well as outward in our struggle for good, and to strive for a "cosmic perspective" on the problems of our day. But He also, I think, had a deeply social vision--"love thy neighbor..."--and wouldn't want us to withdraw from today's problems simply because we know they are small in the grand scheme and that our power over them is limited. LIMITED, not nonexistent!
As for Christianity and climate change, I was moved by a book by an evangelical Christian called "Serve God, Save the Planet." The author's website is posted here. Let me know what you think.

These advertisements are relying on shock-value to draw attention to the issue. They should be seen for what they are, a joke- with a underlying message no doubt. However the unavoidable fact of the matter is it comes across as uneducated and BIMBO.
Yet it is very interesting to note that these seemingly insensitive ads have spurred debate and opinion sharing more on the issue of Global Warming itself rather than the ads and their content.
Split issue if you ask me.

LOL, Ask Al if he enjoyed his sea bass. Man that was one chilly winter. What the coldest in how many years? Oh and how do I out this, driving a hybrid that has a larger Co2 footprint to make the stupid car than what you would have if you would simply drive your old car into the ground before off loading it is real smart. Further it isn't about saving the planet, it is about being right. If it was about saving the planet we would get more educated responses to the problem. Ask them what the solution is and they used to shout Ethanol, now its not ethanol, they say hybrids will save us with the battery system integrated into it will save us, your electricity has to come from somewhere and since you "tree huggers" seem to think wind mills are ugly, damns are destructive to nature, nuclear is nuclear and will lead to massive melt downs, Solar isn't efficient enough etc... Where do you propose we get the electricity from? How about we make it so that anyone that is against all these solutions be sent to live off the land in a 3rd world country and quit being a hypocrite and leave the rest of us in peace to actually move forward. Oh and there is a reason the scientist for global warming are for it, they are not trained to deal with it. Look at where the scientist have fallen out at, zoologists and biologists are for man made global warming while the "hard" sciences are against man made global warming. Remind me again how much Co2 is released every time a Volcano erupts? How many cars and years is it worth?
One last stupid question, does it not stand to reason that it is a natural cycle of the earth to try and get the CO2 that was once in the atmosphere back into the atmosphere? You don't believe in the Divine inspiration, so that means that we are only restoring the earth to the way it was previously, so quit being a Hypocrite and let us do our restoration project. Burn the Fuel Baby. CO2 the world out and let plant life have the building blocks it needs to thrive!!!!!
