Come on 'Totally' and 'Phil Hartman', like Cavemen haven't been done 1000 times in every genre already for years.
The difference here is that people seem to like the Geico caveman enough to watch a show about him.

Ug.
Why can't the cute, personable little gecko get a show? If I want to watch a surly, complaining caveman. . .

I'm just a caveman, you're advertising icons dazzle and confuse me.

The neighbor should be Mark Fenske.
For everyone else, don't playa hate, playa participate!
In other words, I'm a player participant!

The gecko sucks.

Don't get ahead of yourself. People may like them for 30 seconds. Or even a couple minutes. But a half hour every week is a totally different story.
Anyone else feel like this show's target audience is advertising executives?

This is a step in the right direction. Its cool that the creative team gets to work idea as far as a sitcom. And people might learn to love the characters.
It's a worthy branding idea. Like Bud.tv, BK's xbox games and this is a great example of the way we need to think about branded content (read:entertainment).

I wrote those ads.
Can you say "I'm Rich Beeotch!"?
Posted by: joe lawson | Mar 2, 2007 7:28:29 PM
He's definitely rich. But definitely not original. This is plagarized from Unfrozen caveman Lawyer. Sure "caveman" has been done, but this is the exact same character only not as funny.

A show about a family on monsters living in suburban 20th century America became wildly popular. (Two such shows, actually.)
On the other hand, that was 40 years ago...

I've always loved the Geico Cavemen commercials - they're actually entertaining...and as an actor, the main guy is really good - he's hilarious. Hell, it's bound to be as good as at least half the crap on the tube now, if they keep it to a half hour a pop. I hope they make a bundle. Get in for one season, get out, everyone laughed, nobody got hurt. I'd watch it.

PS - and yes, yes yes, Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer - but take ANYTHING in any media: it's been done before. Any plot, any character, any song, any movie, anything. Done already. So what? If they use these actors and do what they did with these commercials, which are obviously a success and people enjoy it, who cares? It means that the in the previous attempts, the people dropped the ball. Too bad.
Posted by: Billychic | Mar 5, 2007 12:36:14 PM
Dropping the ball or protecting his caveman ass probably. Like all SNL cast, Phil woulda had to have given Lorne a huge cut if he brought that character to the big screen since it was first developed on SNL. Besides, maybe he had plans to but unfortunately we'll never find out now.

What's the betting they'll try and get some C-list celebs to play the cavemen... a Baldwin brother, anyone? Let's hope they keep the original trio. Those dudes are actually funny, even when they are shilling for Geico.

Do Cavemen dream of electric geckos?
Posted by: Hounds Rye | Mar 6, 2007 1:05:46 AM

Posted by: | Mar 6, 2007 2:10:02 PM
it HAS to have the actors from the commercial.
Posted by: | Mar 7, 2007 6:58:32 PM
Love the caveman. Hate the gecko.
Still have no idea what these commercials are about.
"Government Employees Insurance Corporation?"
