Many security officers at my university use Segways already, and they're the laughing stock of campus. I've even seen two or three manage to throw themselves off of it when the Segway goes out of control. Not to mention that a determined criminal can easily get away up a flight of stairs. Colossal waste of money, NYC!

Chicago cops have been using them for years. I'd say the jury is out on whether they look dorkier than mountain bike cops and 4 wheeler cops, which we have plenty of too. At least Segways don't leave giant piles in the street like horses.

The last thing cops need is something that limits their amount of physical activity. Believe me, most of these fat asses should be walking as much as possible.

This was the thing that was going to cause our cities to be redesigned?
Let's see. 10 scooters at about 5K each equals $50K for the pathtic and dying Segway company.
"You have a product so revolutionary, you'll have no problem selling it. The question is, are people going to be allowed to use it?" asked visionary and paranoid idiot Jeff Bezos. He thought automakers would lobby against the machine. No. Jeffy, common sense won the argument. The machine is a toy for people with too much money. Like you.

Get real Bobby, most police officers are not knights in shining armor dodging bullets from evil criminals every single day of their career, defending truth, justice and the American way like they're Superman(woman).
Segways can only go where a wheelchair can go. Curbs, steps or stairs, potholes, doorways, alleyways mean nothing to Fleeing lawbreakers. A cop would have to "ditch" the segway in the middle of the street and run after them. If the officers had the exercise of walking around on patrol instead of riding around, they would have more physical stamina to be in a chase. There is also the chance of a bystander being hit by an officer on a fast movig segway.
