Isaiah Washington to film gay-rights PSAs

Washington_2 Grey’s Anatomy actor Isaiah Washington will be trading in his gay slurs for a message of gay rights in upcoming PSAs for two advocacy groups, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network. It’s part of a proud tradition—commercials as penance—that lately has been the purview mostly of CEOs at misbehaving companies. Politicians have done plenty of “I’m sorry” spots, too, the most notorious being Jerry Springer’s semi-apology, while he was running for governor of Ohio, for paying a prostitute with a personal check. Of course, we are still waiting for those elusive seat-belt PSAs from New Jersey governor Jon Corzine.

How gay.

Am I the only one that sees the irony in this whole mess.

For years (centuries perhaps), white people have been saying racist things about blacks. Then, they've had to apologize for those remarks and do something that made them seem less racist.

Now, we have a black actor that has said bad things about gays. He is apologizing for his remarks and doing something that gives the illusion that he's not a gay-hater.

Man, I can't wait to see what gay public figure is cruified for saying something bad about whites and this thing comes full circle

Like Rosie O'donnel doesn't get criticized in the media all the time. Please, am I supposed to give Isaiah Washington a pass because he's black?

"Sorry Mr. Washington, I forgot all about the 400 years of slavery, please go ahead and insult gays and rape all the white women you want. You're black, so instead of treating you as an equal and judge you like we'd judge an actor like Mel Gibson, we're gonna treat you like you're goddamm special."

Fuck Mr. Washington, I say. If he wants to insult gays, he should try a career somewhere else, but if he wants to keep his job and not have every gay agent, producer, director, actor, cameraman, and other Hollywood gays hating his guts, he needs to apologize, do his PSA, and then everyone will forget about it and move on to the next issue.
