London unveils logo for the 2012 Olympics

London2012 Here’s what London has come up with for a 2012 Olympic Games logo: this “dynamic, modern and flexible” design based off the numbers 2012, with (for a change) no images connecting it to the host city. The logo was crafted by design agency Wolff Olins and will be used in four colors—pink, blue, green and orange—which are meant to embody four key “brand pillars” (whatever that means) of access, participation, stimulation and inspiration. You can see a movie about the new brand here. Expectations are high for this new logo. Says Tony Blair: “When people see the new brand, we want them to be inspired to make a positive change in their life.” Not sure it’s had that effect on me, as I sit in a rainy New York City on a Monday morning. How about you?

Ugh.

Upcoming Beijing's are superior... and in the recent past, few can compete with the imagery of the Lillihammer and Salt Lake City Olympics, in my mind.

Oh man, if this is a teaser to tell us that Max Headroom is going to be a commentator I am more psyched than you can imagine.

I really think they've missed the mark here. It's definitely trying to reach out to the kids, and it resembles some of the current pop culture trends, but I doubt it will be seen as fresh or dynamic in 5 years time.

Hmm, yes. The dayglo colours of a logo that looks like it stuck its fingers in the electrical socket really makes me want to change my life.

A very dated 80s revival, anyone??

Ha ha ha Is this for real? I guess the graffiti style logo suits London.

It works if Legos are now competing in the Games.
