Stop crime in Boston with your cell phone
Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos is creating ads to support the Boston Police Department’s revamp of its decade-old Crime Stoppers tip line, which now includes an anonymous text-messaging system. From the press release: “Boston is the first city in the nation to give its citizens the ability to submit an anonymous tip from their mobile phone.” Pro-bono ads use the line “You are not to remain silent” and encourage squealers (er, citizens) to “Text the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).” What if the mugger grabs your cell? What do you do then? (I’ve got to stop watching so much CSI.) Of course, I hope text tips stop crime and save lives. Still, why not just build tasers into the phones and really empower the populace? My iPhone* includes such a feature—plus a phaser, in case you’re jumped by Klingons. Apple’s iPhone lacks such functionality. There’s still time to buy me out, Jobs!
