James Bond advertising at its very best

You_only_live_twice Recently, some friends and I took up that age-old debate: What’s the best James Bond movie? For me, it’s a no-brainer. You Only Live Twice has it all: rampant sexism, cultural insensitivity, ninja training camps, a secret volcano base, Donald Pleasence, a gyrocopter battle, even a screenplay by Willie Wonka creator Roald Dahl. Anyway, it inspired me to pull up the original ads, and they are equally overflowing with awesomeness. First off, there’s the bathhouse orgy poster shown here. (Click image to enlarge.) Another poster features the mind-blowing excitement of the aforementioned gyrocopter battle. (Compare to today’s fare. Yaaawn.) Then there’s the 1967 trailer, stuffed with a bounty of gems, such as an airplane that explodes—TWICE! Your votes for best Bond advertising are welcome in the comments section.

For best posters, yes you only live twice bar none but being more of a Moore fan (actually my favorite Bond is Brosnan, hey, I'm young!) I still say the best bond movie is Live and Let Die. Yes it had it's 70s moments but it had a good share of bond girls, tech gadgets and well PAUL MCCARTNEY doing the theme music :) But you only live twice is a close 2nd.

"rampant sexism, cultural insensitivity"

---Just because women don't enjoy being in bed with a bunch of men doens't mean this poster is sexist. Dude, why do you always have to be so politically correct?

I was really thinking about the movie itself, although the poster truly captures the tone. The movie is hands-down the most laughably sexist of the franchise.

The part I always remember is when they tell Bond that he'll be in disguise as a married Japanese fisherman. He asks if his "wife" is beautiful, and the handler says, "She has a face like a pig!" Bond's response is, "To hell with this plan!"

The gyrocopter looks vaguely like Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang, but with missiles.

Well, well well. Talk about bringing back memories! These are the flicks I grew up on! All five original films are classic and YOLT lived up the the promise that they all pointed to. Check out the posters for Thunderball (might be the same artist) and you will see that they are just as good! The 60s really were rocking!!

So much did I want to be our boy J.B. that my artist pen name became and still is Flint. No one deserved to be called James Bond better than Sean Connery!
