Gleason: Screw public opinion, vote Nixon
When Jackie Gleason wasn’t using space travel as a metaphor
for spousal abuse or chasing Burt Reynolds around the rural South, he was voicing his support for
Richard Nixon. That makes way more sense than it should. Although the audio
here is a little muddy, it’s still worth hearing Gleason express his worries
for the country’s direction and concluding that only a racist, paranoid asshole
could put us back on course. I just wish Art Carney had supported Hubert Humphrey,
because the ensuing conflict would have made an awesome Honeymooners episode.
