Teachers give Carl’s Jr. flat-buns spot an F
Carl’s Jr., creator of the Paris Hilton car-wash ad, is back with another ad in which a woman writhes around ecstatically. The new spot (airing as a Hardee’s ad in some markets) is for the chain’s patty melt, which is served on flat buns. In the ad, a couple of kids in a classroom rap about their love of flat buns—in particular the ones found on their teacher. (“Got no heine? I call you Your Highness. In anatomy class, you got a butt-minus.”) Obviously, the ad is not sitting well with some teachers. But Carl’s Jr.’s evp of marketing, Brad Haley, defends the spot, saying “it’s meant to be funny, silly, interesting and not as a social statement.” So there you have it. This ad is intended to be interesting. UPDATE: The buns are now toast! |

Hm, shouldn't the first person anyone talks to about this be Sir Mix-a-Lot?
It is pretty funny, finally "all those white chicks" get some appreciation!

The fact that teachers disapprove of this ad makes it funnier. Reminds me of the time a friend an I were watching the Best of Eddie Murphy and his mom came in during the Little Richard Simmons sketch while he was singing "Met a girl named Daisy, the bitch was fat and lazy" and was offended because she just that. If the shoe fits. And dude's knuckle rings that say FLAT BUNS are what really makes this spot. I gotta get me some of that.

I don't get advertising logic. It's offensive to say Merry Christmas, but it's ok to make an ad of a teacher seducing students inspite of the school sex scandals. What's the next ad in the campaign? A priest dancing in front of altar boys?
At least the Paris Hilton ad didn't make fun of teachers. It's a sensitive issue.

It's not funny. It's offensive to teachers, to women in general and the female gender in general. Say what he wants, Brad Haley is wrong when he says the commercial doesn't make a 'social statement.' It promotes disrespect for authority, for females and for a woman's role in society. There is nothing 'interesting' about the ad, and it serves to further the dumbing down of American society. Advertisers who continue to use sex to sell need to get a freakin clue!

Pam, needs to get a clue. Sex does sell, because the sale numbers associated with adds that find a clever and humorous way to encapsulate sex, pays off. That's the bottom line.
The commercial is funny, and in no way reflects reality. It's done in a traditions late 80's early 90's rock/rap video format. You femanazis really need to calm down. You don't see men getting offended at at commercials that depict them as being stupid and subserviant to women do you?

I have been watching all the blogs about this commercial. Some I
have added my 2 cents worth, some not. However, for all you who
feel that the people who oppose this demeaning commercial are too
out of touch with 2007 - well, you have just found out that morality
wins this one!! It was just announced that after a barrage of
complaints from parents and teachers to Carl's Jr. website, they
will be redoing the commercial without the teacher.
Once again, our voices have been heard and made a difference!
Now just get out there and put the same effort behind government
issues!!!!!!!

I am a teacher, and I don't find it offensive, but I am left with the aching question of WHY??? Why a teacher?? What does that have to do with hamburgers? Silly ad!

Just about every teen boy has fantasized about a teacher at one point for decades. If people have a problem with it they should take it up with hormones.

Am I the only one who is having a hard time seeing the teacher seducing kids?

Modified or not, the whole Flat Buns idea is offensive and should be dropped. Not the first advertising low for this restaurant and parent company. I wouldn't accept a free packet of ketchup from this group. There's enough crassness in society already without these bozos willfully and wontonly adding to the run-away sleaze.
