Colbert outpolling some actual candidates
Stephen Colbert isn’t yet in the top tier of presidential candidates. But then, neither are several elected officials who’ve been seriously campaigning for months for their party’s presidential nomination — and the TV-show cut-up is running ahead of them. An item by Chris Cillizza on The Fix, his politics blog for the Washington Post, cites new polling data that shows Colbert pulling 2.3 percent of the vote for the Democratic nomination, putting him ahead of Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel. On the Republican side, though, he polls less than 1 percent of the vote, leaving him behind such also-rans as Tom Tancredo and Ron Paul. (Colbert has announced plans to run in both parties’ South Carolina primaries.) At least he hasn’t peaked too soon.
