Mark Burnett hoping the jingle isn’t dead

Mark_burnett_2 CBS is planning an ad-jingle show from Mark Burnett called Jingles. “The eight-episode order will pit teams of contestants against each other in weekly battles to determine who can come up with the most effective commercial ditty,” reports Mediaweek. I’ve got a killer tune in mind for the iPhone. Can’t give away too much here, but the words encourage product consumption in stark, emotional terms. (“Buy one or die” is the refrain.) I’m thinking Bono for the vocal. And like all proper jingles, it will sample a Yaz song: maybe “Bad Connection” (give “Don’t Go” a rest for a change). I miss the ’80s. You had to stay home to make phone calls back then.

"the words encourage product consumption in stark, emotional terms"

I was just thinking about how Americans just don't buy enough stuff. I hope this show helps change this problem. Using cheap, untrained idiots to create new jingles usually made by highly-trained professionals should help.

I mean, those Chinese products aren't going to sell themselves.

Jingles being performed onstage?! I don't think so!

We WERE interested... but being on stage is NOT why we got into this biz. Oh well.

Check out our take on Jingles as a reailty tv show by clicking our name/link.

Mark is ahead of the curve and this whole industry is about to reboot. Jingles are about the "best idea" to sell a product. Guess what? No one has a lock on the best ideas. Pop songs are great for the radio, but there is nothing like MUSICALIZING a product's name that drills it home for the consumer and to your store. Madison Avenue fell out of love with it 20 years ago; advertisers have spent millions trying to rebrand a pop song into a selling tool for their product. How's that working for you? If your message is about targeting your audience and your budget is about stretching your 60 seconds into Forever, then "why not maximize your advertising dollars"?
