New York City braces for unfamiliar smell
As they elbow their way along the crowded thoroughfares today, New Yorkers may notice a certain fragrance in the air. No, it’s not garbage. Nor is it the stench of bitter defeat, unless you’re passing Yankee Stadium. Bloomingdale’s flagship store is promoting Donna Karan’s DKNY Delicious Night perfume this week by dispersing the scent around 59th Street and Lexington Avenue. “Spraying a fragrance into the air isn’t practical for most advertisers,” notes The Wall Street Journal, dumbing down its level of discourse even before the News Corp. deal becomes final. My prediction: Bloomie’s will drive most potential customers into Macy’s or home to shop on the Internet. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to run downstairs. Ever since Showtime began advertising Weeds in pot-scented magazine ads, I’ve had the strangest craving for three bags of pretzels and a carton of Reese’s Pieces. Sniff! Oh, dude—this perfume ad on the next page smells like perfume!

yeah, there's nothing that goes better with wieners, pretzel and gutter goodness than a perfume..... It's not enough to have assholes spray you with perfume in a department store, now you can walk down an avenue that does so... awesome.......

The bitter stench of defeat doesn't last long around Yankee Stadium. But it's been known to hang around Fenway for 86 years.
