Advertising legend ‘Mr. Whipple’ dies at 91

Whipple You might feel a certain lingering sadness today in the dry-good aisles of America’s grocery stores. Advertising icon Dick “Mr. Whipple” Wilson has died at age 91. Whether you love or hate “Don’t squeeze the Charmin,” it’s hard to question the campaign’s endurance. Born in Britain and raised in Canada, Wilson was a uniquely American icon who clocked more than 500 ads as the same obsessive-compulsive character. He also inspired one of the best advertising books around. In honor of his passing, I hereby pledge to take at least one week off from bear-hugging my bathroom supplies. It’s what he would have wanted.

Mr. Whipple died. As a retired housewife, I wanted to get in advertising at one time. Now I don’t. I wanna use my creative powers for something better. Anyway, to the people who tee peed trees and used your product for pranks, HAHA!, for those whose Tush or Tusch was comforted by the advertising claims and moosch, WHOOOSH!, another memory built into the sky.

My testimonial, which is no refection on the man himself.

As a housewife and diligent shopper in the family, meaning one that made shopping lists, clipped coupons and was responsible for the household budget, I don't think I bought Charmin that much unless there were triple coupons. I usually bought the store brand in toilet paper, for what ever that comment is worth.

I believe that Luke Sullivan is behind the death of Whipple. Let's face it, the book has been out for several years. Sales were lagging. Luke's agency is on the ropes http://www.adweek.com/aw/national/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003671992 What better way to generate interest than offing M Whip? Looks like Senor Sullivan took a page out of the gangsta rap text book on increased sales thru death. Congress should open an investigation immediately. Me? I'm already in pre-production on this sucker.

Just a reminder that we are on this earth for a limited time only! Live wisely and keep your eyes focused on heaven (our true home).
