Anomaly livens up the airline safety video

Anomaly is the envy of many in the agency world. It does innovative work, dabbles in product design, gets paid for results, and even comes up with neat buzzwords like “branded utility.” What’s more, one of its partners is Johnny Vulkan. What a name! There isn’t a category in Cannes for this yet, but Anomaly might have created the airline safety video of the year (above) for Virgin America. As Experience Curve points out, making the uber-mundane enjoyable is a great way for a brand to deliver on its promise of a great experience.

Pretty cool. Too bad they lost the account.

Eh. Southwest has better jokes.

if creative and entertaining are the norm, then yes they are an anomaly.

Kudos to Anomaly for lighting the torch in an otherwise dimly lit airplane-safety-video tunnel, and double kudos to Virgin Airlines for recognizing that the way it's always been done isn't necessarily the most effective way -- a client that gets it, how refreshing!

Speaking of uber-mundane, healthcare advertising surely applies. Unlike most, Mortar's ad campaign for St. Mary’s Medical Center confronts San Franciscans with situations they can closely relate to. Or at least laugh at.

I talked about this video a few days ago and included images of the safety card as well, which has some nice touches:

Also of note is a series of really cool commercials that Virgin has put together called Virgin America's Virgin Americans:

Virgin's doing a good job so far.

Congratulations, MortarStephanie. That's one of the most egregiously unctuous acts of self promotion I've seen in a long time. Way to segue.

How long till the FAA squashes this like the FCC squashed singing the EBS test message in the 70s...same thing...and i agree Southwest's embedded jokes and insults are better ;) then again southwest is a crappy airline and virgin america is great so that makes them even
