Is Santa’s ‘Ho ho ho’ offensive to women? Santa Claus has it bad, and it’s only getting worse. Last year, a study revealed that one-third of all shopping-mall Clauses have been urinated on by children during their careers. (They also get sneezed on and have their beards pulled.) Now, the rotund figurehead of the Christmas shopping season is being told to watch his mouth. In Australia, a recruitment firm that hires mall Santas has reportedly been telling its trainees that the traditional “ho ho ho” phrase “could frighten children and could even be derogatory to women,” as it is “too close to the American slang for prostitute.” The suggested politically correct replacement: “ha ha ha.” A rep for the company clarifies that the decision is “being left up to the discretion of Santa himself.” One mother speaks for a nation when she says, “It’s what Santa has been saying his whole life—my whole life. I doubt they even consulted women about this. I know the absolute vast majority of women would find this absolutely ridiculous.
